My M&P 22 is an early one (SN 72xx) and has probably 5K rounds through it. It's also been running suppressed for the last couple of years so it has the threaded adapter to mount the suppressor. This has to be removed to clean the gun. There is a shroud around the barrel proper that has a notch in it that indexes into a raised nub on the inside of a square housing that holds the barrel and feed ramp assembly together. Those that have one will know what I'm talking about. That nub used to be nice and square and the shroud used to slide into the square housing cleanly and you could feel it sort of "click" into the nub and align itself.
I've noticed over the last few months that it has been harder and harder to remove the shroud and the alignment "click" is no more. I got a light down in there tonight after a day at the range and the clean, square little nub is now a mashed up, mushroom shape. I'm guessing that with the numerous suppressor on/off and adapter on/off and me tightening things, that I caused the mash-up.
Now, the barrel shroud can only go so far back against the square housing because there is a relief ledge cut the full way around the inside of the housing. I wonder if this is really anything to worry about or am I missing something dangerous here.
Thanks
Tony S.
