I screwed up and have no idea what really happened. I shot my M&P 22 handgun this weekend for the third time. It shot beautifully each time. I took it home, disassembled it to clean. I first cleaned other parts before going to the barrel. I took the bore brush (clearly marked 22), put cleaning solvent in the bore and on the brush (a brush I had used 3 other times on this same gun). The brush promptly got stuck. I couldn't even pull it out. I even put gun oil down the bore - no luck pulling out the brush.

What could have gone wrong when it had just performed great at the range? I have several handguns and have never had this problem. I am not an expert, but not a novice either.

will the rod unscrew from the brush? if so get a wooden dowel rod as close to the bore size as possible and drive it out.

That is Odd.

I agree. Use a wooden Dow and tap it out. I will admit using the bore brush is hard when running it through barrel but getting it stuck is odd ! Good luck and let us know how it works out !

New brush? Have had this happen several times with .223 and .22.

Either push harder, or do as suggested above, and ram it out with a dowel.

Pushing harder usually works unless the rod is really flexible.

I ended up sending this M&P to Smith & wesson via my gun store. In less than a month, I received it back with a new barrel - all under warranty. You can't beat service like that!!

I had used something else, not having a dowel handy. I will certainly use a dowel rod next time (hopefully there won't be a next time).
S&W did not ask any questions.

Oh I thought maybe you sent it in because you couldn't get the brush out. Did the brush, or removing it, damage the barrel?

I think it did. The barrel is so small, it was hard to see damage. Because the brush stuck and was a pain to get out, I took into my gun shop and asked. They looked at it and suggested sending into S&W - using the warranty.

I looked at that brush several times to be sure it was for a 22. I couldn't believe the same brush I had used before got stuck. Odd, but a good ending.
