M&P 22 Compact or Glock 44. Which is more reliable?

Thanks to all those that have replied. I realize this is a Smith & Wesson forum and I realize that the quality of .22 ammunition varies greatly. I value the opinions of the members of this forum and have found that the members here are generally more civilized and provide honest opinions regardless of the brand of firearm.

Gotta love the internet.

Question: Which is more reliable, M&P22C or Glock 44?
Two of three answers: Taurus TX22.

Yep - that what happens around here and most other forums... ask a question and get a detailed answer about anything but your question! Oh yeah - S&W Compact is my go to trail gun (because I'm not afraid of bears that run from me on sight)

Yes, but, it is a very valid option, and has been proven to be very reliable, and nice to shoot. It also has a great grip, great trigger, and is 16+1. Nice gun.

If you are trying to practice, and carry the Shield, the M&P 22C has a similar grip, so that would be a plus for the M&P 22C. If you just want a nice 22 to plink, it's nice to have a larger magazine, and a nice trigger, and grip. So, Taurus TX22.

The Glock? The Taurus has a better trigger, and, it's a Glock. If you like Glocks, and the way they feel, it will work just fine.

S&W M&P 22 Compact or Taurus TX22
Didn't say it wasn't a good gun. From everything I've read, it has quite a following. I said it was non-responsive to the OP.

"Which is more reliable, A or B?" presumes questioner is looking for an answer of A or B, but on the Internet, the responses frequently are C-Z.

Get both. I have never shot the G44 but a friend that visits here has a 22C and I have never witnessed a malfunction in that particular handgun.

Yep, welcome to the internet. And there is really nothing wrong with it. The original question had really already been answered.

Personally, I'm surprised no one tried to steer the OP away from .22, saying that the 40 caliber was the bare minimum they should get.

I have shot both.
If both weapons were on the table and the owner told me I could have the glock or pay for the S&W I would choose the S&W.

M&P 22 Compact or Glock 44. Which is more reliable?

I have a full size M & P 22, early model Walther version. It is light, carries in a coat pocket. It functions well on anything I feed it.

IMHO it really comes down which one you like better.

If you have a G19, and want cheap trigger time, the G44 makes sense.

If you don't like the feel of a Glock and just want a fun .22, the Smith will make you happy.

We have a .22 conversion for my wife's G19, and an M&P Compact .22, which I bought mostly as a suppressor host. I will choose the M&P every time. My wife prefers the M&P, but mostly shoots the converted Glock because her issue gun is a G23, and it's cheap practice.

The only problem with the M&P .22 Compact is the rear sight. The design is ****, and you'll find yourself looking for the sight blade on the ground. A set of Dawson sights fixed that particular problem for me.

I own M&P22 Compact. Pure USA, no Walther parts anymore. Never have had a single malfunction. Great shooter. Accurate, fast, reliable.
The only concern... S&W did not keep size of original M&P Compact pistol.
22 is about 15% shrunk version, close to Shield size.

Glock 44 keeps the size of the Family which is great for uniformity... I don't like Glocks, so my words about model 44 won't count.

I own both of those guns, my smith is "very" picky of ammo. cci worked the best cheaper ammo jammed a lot. the smith is heaver and I like the sights a little better. the glock is a really light gun but it fired every thing I feed it, also it is identical in size to the glock mod 19. I like the trigger on the smith better, the 44 has the typical glock pull.

My MP22 C is the most reliable semiautomatic rimfire that I've owned in my 47 years of shooting. If the question is about reliability I wouldn't even think about looking anywhere else.

Accuracy of M&P .22

Valmet,
I understand your preference regarding the Ruger Mark 4, it is an excellent .22. I'm just curious regarding the Compact.22 for accuracy. I've owned & shot Many, many Ruger .22's pistols, the Mark 3 series being the best. I've had Browning Buck Marks that were very critical of most .22 ammo out there & I won't have another. The Ruger Super Single Six is great as well as probably the Mark 4. If I was going to buy at .22 pistol right now, the Super Single Six w/magnum cylinder or the Ruger Mark 4 would be my choice. Tom

what was the accuracy like at 7 yds or there abouts ? Tom
This is 20 rds, off-hand, at ~12 yards. A bit outside the range you asked about, but it should give you an idea of the capability of the pistol.

My Glock 44 is very reliable on copper plated 36 gr bulk ammo from Armscor or Federal. 18 round magazines work fine too. Go too low on ammo quality and the gun will fail to eject on weak fires. No surprise there.
I happen to shoot Glocks very well so I didn't mind paying a little more to have the same ergonomics. The new rifling pattern (Glock Marksman Barrel) shows no tendency to lead and that is a nice feature.
