M&P 22 Ejection Issue

Any updates on this? Mine does this about 10 times out of 400 shots. I believe it is because the first round, is getting pushed into the chamber TOO hard, and it cannot be easily extracted. The next time I go to the range, I will make sure I have a clean chamber, and I will ease the slide shut, on the first round, and see what happens.

I'll pass this on as someone told me to do in another post.. Buy a brass 25 cal. brush bend the brush to a L shape the same length as a 22LR round and use that to realy keep your chamber clean with some good old Hoppe's bore solvent.. I don't think there is any need nor should you ease the slide shut.. Use the slide release or slingshot that slide shut. clean under the extractor and then above the breach face feed ramp with a tooth brush or similar cleaning tool too.. Cant be to clean you know! good luck! George

Here it is! **** IN POST #9

Well, I would say the answer is a clean chamber, and you will have the problem no more.
I just put another 400 or so through mine today. (Federal 550).
I had no first round failure to eject, but I did have about 6 that would not cycle the slide, and 2 duds, that would not fire.
At about round 400, I had a case get stuck in the chamber. The same thing happened to me yesterday at about round 400... So If I cleaned the chamber, every 150 rounds or so, I bet I would have almost no problems with the Federal 550.
I did run 12 rounds of Stingers, at the end of the 400 rounds, and they ran right through .. No problem.

Update:

Went to the range tonight. As per the suggestions above, the magazine had been sitting for about a week loaded with 12 rounds, I had a very clean chamber and I sling-shotted the slide. All to no avail. I still had FTE's on the first rounds every time, but no other FTEs. All Federal bulk ammo.

Next I loaded two CCI Velocitors on top of 10 Federal bulk rounds, and did not have an FTE. Tried this several times, and as long as the CCI round was the first to fire (even just 1 CCI on top of 11 Federals), there were no FTEs.

So for practice at the range the Federals will be fine. Loaded at home for self defense, the gun will be loaded with CCI Velocitors from now on.

I started fireing my M&P 22 a few weeks ago with no misfire or eject problems. I bought 4 extra mags and had all six loaded when we got to the range today and immediately started having a problem. When I loaded a mag and then released the slide, several times the first round would hang up and not go into the barrel. I new it wasn't dirty because I had just arrived at the range and started shooting. It happened several times, and I couldn't figure it out. Becoming more and more perplexed, I reloaded all six mags and started shooting again. On the last mag that I inserted I found the problem. I was putting the mag into the weapon with to much force. When I simply inserted the mag in and allowed it to snap in place it loaded and shot perfectly. When I used my palm and struck the bottom of the mag to lock it in place, the front of the round would nose up slightly and as the slide came forward it would not hit the guide to line up with the barrel and would either hang up or stand straight up. I thought it might have been the 4 new mags at first, but finally figured out it was just "operator error"!! :o:o

FLT FIS, Yes good point! Also if the mag is inserted with to much force with a open slide to many times the mag will widen at the lips and and or bend the lips up. The first few rounds will not feed right. They will jamb, feed nose up or even fly right over the chamber out of the gun.. This will also be the case if you are use to pulling down the mag button follower all the way and then loading some rounds and have you finger slip off the follower button slamming the rounds in the mag with much force up into the mag lips again spreading them wider.. I load with the mag button pressed only enough to move the follower down by only 1 round or so, do to having had this same issue with other 22 mags.. There is not much metal holding that 22LR rimmed cartridge in the mag.. The fix in this case is to take the mag to someone that knows how to put it back to it's original shape Bending the mag lips ever so slightly back down.. Hint! One way to fix the bad mags is if you have a good working mag load it fully take a sharpie ultra fine and use the mag lips as a guide and mark a line on the case on each side of the mag lips.. Then load the bad mag with the marked round last again they have to be fully loaded.. This will give you a guide as to how much the lips need ot be bent back.. Still very hard to see as it don't have to be bent much to cause feeding issues. Someone with experience can do this by eyeing it and feel then checking feed.. Note doing this with live rounds can lead to a accidental discharge of the gun!!! Take the gun and all the mags to someone who knows what there doing.. Then BABY the mags after they are fixed! George

PS In reading your post I'm not sure if your saying the first round feeds fine but the gun does not extract the spent cartridge "FTE".. Or are you saying the first round fails to feed into the chamber? My fix is for the first few rounds not getting fed into the chamber with a full mag! "FTF".

Ok re read the first post again and your saying the rounds feeds fine but does not extract from the chamber! If this is the case take your slide off the gun and look at the extractor clean under it with a brush make sure the extractor spring is doing what it should.. you may want to spray some cleaner lube under the extractor maybe junk has built up inside where the extractor spring puts pressure on the extractor causing a intolerance.. Clean it out with a light weight cleaner lube spray.. Also check the breach face right above the feed ramp there is a space there that collects lead and gunk Also the rim case holder on the slide, this fits right in that feed ramp space that collects lead and gunk and don't let the slide fully close. Clean this place with cleaner and a brush and or a plastic dental pick or even a tooth pick.. If this all fails to fix your issues you may have to send it back to Smith & Wesson explaining the issues well.. Best of luck!! G

I don't know what to say about mine. I took it out today and it was a hot mess all over again. This time I brought some Federal bulk to try and that was a complete gong show...the gun was choking on it left and right and even had an empty stick in the chamber. I had to rack the slide after almost every shot. I retreated to the Winchester bulk and was back to the original problem of FTE after the first round again.

I think it may be time to find a different magazine and see if that is the problem. Very unimpressed with this gun thus far.
