I now have an M&P 22 and love it so far, the roll pin or spring pin located just below the take down lever keeps backing out starboard. the farthest it has come out is about 3/32 to 1/8 inch. I tried the search to see if anyone else has had this issue with any of the other M&P's but was not able to muddle threw the archives with this issue. Any idea's to keep this pin in place?

Any idea's to keep this pin in place?

I'm not home to take a look at my M&P 22 to see how feasible this idea is but; in the past I have had luck taking the pin thats drifting out, cleaning it with alcohol, then reinstalling with a little blue locktite. Before doing this make sure it won't adversely effect the function of the pin (IE. the pin needs to rotate)

Yep, This is exactly what I would do. Thumbs up to FDE! Cleaning is the key here to get off all the lube first. Use a few Q tips or what ever you need ot get in the hole and the pin will be easy to clean well. Issue will be gone! George

P.S. I know this is a miner issue but still should not be. I don't know if S&W went to far in sourcing out this gun to Walther. Even the darn barrel is sleeved over a paper thin barrel. Most decent guns have thick barrels.. Most guns will last a life time or many lifetimes. We have seen that.. Do you truly think the M&P 22 or M&P any thing will even come close to that? I wonder myself. I see a lot of cheap in this gun but then again I'm comparing it to old school 1911"s and other great pistols of old. Your thoughts? I would like to also hear from some of you older guys like me. I'm 55. George

I personally would give S&W a call and check to see if they have another roll pin, maybe some kind of an upgrade.

As for the pistol, great pistol and I believe the M&P's will outlive us... I actually own 5 of them along with many more 1911's... So I think I can speak from experience..

Having the same issue in one of my 2 M&P22s. When I look inside, it does not look like the roll pin is damaged. I have just been hitting it back in. Did you call S&W and if so, what did they say?

The roll pin is either damaged from installation or manufacture. Take it to your local full service hardware store, match it up, and replace it. It's faster than S&W and then will hold as designed.

Don't use Loctite. Although it may be a temporary fix, there is a reason the full name is Loctite Threadlocker.

took my shield to the range today for the first time and it is doing the same thing. It is a 40 cal

M&P 22 Roll Pin backs out; Returning to S&W for repair.

I have a new M&P 22 (month old). On the frame, the roll pin beneath the "Take Down Lever" backs outs on opposite side of the frame when I shoot. I've been using a roll pin punch to re-seat the roll pin. Today, I kept a log of what I was shooting and the roll pin state. a) Remington Thunderbolt (muzzle velocity: 1255 fps): 100 rounds-roll pin flush with frame. running count: 100. b) CCI MiniMag (muzzle: 1235 fps): 60 rnds-roll pin moved, but still flush w/ frame. rc: 160; 20 rnds-roll pin moved and extends a little beyond the frame. rc: 180; 20 rnds-roll pin moved a bit more more beyond the frame. rc: 200. c) CCI Stinger (muzzle: 1640 fps): 10 rnds-rolled pin really moved beyond the frame-not flush, visible to eye. rc: 210. 10 rnds-roll pin moved-noticeable. rc: 220. d) Remington Thunderbolt (muzzle: 1255 fps) 80 rnds-roll pin extends approximately 1/8" beyond the frame.

I am sending my M&P 22 back to S&W for repair. S&W takes about a 5-6 weeks to repair.

Very interesting. I have noticed the same thing. I don't see it as a big enough problem to sent it in for repair but I will watch this thread to see what S&W says.

Will S&W send you the roll pin? Have you asked? That would be the easiest fix if they sent you the part.

Don't bother sending it to s&w.

I did and all they did was bend the existing pins in the center so they weren't perfectly tubular anymore and re-install.

When I got it back 2 weeks later, the pins were not even centered in the frame! So I tapped the pins in myself, so they were equal on each side and went to the range. THEIR FIX DID NOT WORK AT ALL! Pins backed right out again.

I only sent them the gun because they would not tell me what kind of polymer the frame was made from, and were very adamant that locktite not be used and would not send me any pins nor tell me what size they were.

I measured and found they are 3mm, bought some from mcmaster carr, and installed them myself. They still back out, but not nearly at the rate previously.

I suggest you do the locktite thing. Wish I had...

Just a thought take a caliper with you when you go to the hardware store looking for roll pins if the metric size is 3mm Check against the american size larger than 3 mm may be close enough to be just a tad tighter.. Next way to go wis with the next size up 3.5mm or 4mm poll pin and put it in a drill press and use a diamond stone or file to run a little off of it.. Nice thing here is you can taper the pin for a tighter fit.. I only have about 2000 rounds downrange with my M&P.22 most are Mini Mage and Winchester 555 white box at a velocity of 1280 shot some thunder bolts too and some federal blue box.. no issues with the roll pins on that gun, yet..George

Slightly increase the diameter of the pin on one side by using a sharp nail and a hammer...

M&P Freak, How are you? If I remember right Ron? Great idea! Widen the roll pin on one side! Anyway I have not shot at the range yet this year. Funny first thing the wife and I did early in the year was to get range passes $40 bucks each and have not used them as of yet. It's been one thing or another all year with doctors ot just feeling like sh-t.. I have not see a brick of .22 LR in over a year.. I have some .22 ammo but am holding off shooting it till I know for sure if my wife wants to re learn shooting.. I'll use it for that.. Still dry here in NH at least in the north..But anyway that M&P sure did become a nice dependable shooter after I flattened the beach face.George

It's all good George. Ammo is showing up again in my area, it's out there. Go use those range passes!

With The wife she's gun shy because of her bad arthritis in her wrists. She picked up a 9mm early this year that she like the looks of.. I have a few .22 and a 32ACP so she can work up to it.. But again she has to want too! I see you're from Jefferson that would not be Jefferson NH would it? In any case I even have a modern sporting rifle that I have to have her go down with me to help me get it dialed in.. I have never shot it yet.. I'm a .45 kind of guy. But I'll be shooting before the passes run out that's for sure!!!! George

I picked up my S&W M&P 22 on Monday, 21 Oct 2013 at Fedex. The both roll pins on the frame (near the take down and back end of the frame) were replaced at the factory. Additionally, the gun was fired with high velocity rounds at the factory with no roll pins backing out. I plan to take my M&P 22 to the range and see what happens. It took S&W about 5-6 weeks.
