Wow I ran 300 rounds through this gun without a jam! Two friends have the same gun and it never jams for them either. I have never enjoyed plinking with a .22 as much as I do with this gun. Two questions: 1. I stripped the rear windage hex bolt (thank goodness it is sighted in) and two I bought a 10 round magazine online though my gun came with a 12 round mag. Will the 10 round mag shoot? Also not that I care about the 2 extra rounds but can I convert this to a 12 round mag?

Any tips on caring for this gun or sights I might want to look into buying? I really love this gun, I shoot .45 cal .40 cal. 9mm .357 but I have learned that if I am going to leave my lead at the range why spend an arm and a leg shooting paper targets? So I think I will make this a nice target gun, any recommendations for sights and how in the heck can I get the stripped hex bolt out without going to a gun smith?

Thanks,

Grons

As has been posted on this forum many times, removing the spacer between the follower and spring will convert your magazine from 10 to 12 rounds.

As for the sights, those are the one drawback of the M&P22. Being older with ageing eyes, I like the fiber optic front and rear sights from Dawson and they serve me well in competition like defensive shoots and steel challenge.
At the end of July 2013, new, adjustable fiber optic sights will be available from Williams Gunsight and I'll switch to them, as I like the idea of being able to fine tune my sights for different ammunition.

I love mine too and it has been very reliable with everything I've shot in it.

I also have Dawson fiber optics on mine.

Try a small screwdriver, like for eye glasses, to get the screw out. If it's sighted in don't bother. Or better yet, get the front and rear Dawson sights and be happy.

Take your slide to a hardware store and find the hex that fits. I also have Dawson. Try the search feature.

I'm putting the big dot on mine to match my 9mm. BTW, love mine too!

Dawson .16 front sight

I just ordered DP S&W M&P .22 Fiber Optic Inserted Front Sight .160 Tall x .125 Wide, Ramped #021211

I assume this is not dove-tailed so it doesn't matter which side I remove the old site from and insert the new site? Also this is a red sight are the green better? Seems this was the only color option for the MP 22?

They are dove tailed. Remove to the ejection side or right if looking down the barrel.

Just replace the fiber rod. No reason to remove the sight. Yes the green are much better.

I will see if they have green

Dove tail - so if I am looking at the slide from front to back (looking at it from the muzzle end. I will remove the old sight by punching it out to my right and then insert the new one by punching it from right to left?

Changing fiber

Just replace the fiber rod. No reason to remove the sight. Yes the green are much better.

So if they ship me the red, these fibers are standard and I can go to Sportsman Warehouse and replace the red with green?

I am thinking about leaving the rear sights alone especially since I stripped the hex bolt and the current one allows for elevation adjustment?

Dawson ships both colors with their sights so you can change to the one you want.

I get a fail to feed periodically but not often. It will fire and cycle but i only get a click with a trigger press. I manually cycle the slide and the chamber is empty. The next round goes in and shoots fine.

Mine seems to shoot any and all ammo brands without much issue.

I love the gun but only when i can find ammo to feed it!!!!

OK

No you got it backwards on the sight. Read my post again.

So looking down the barrell from the rear to the front, push the site from left to right and then put the new one in from right to left.

Got it.

rear sight no elevation adjustment

If the Dawson rear sights don't have an elevation adjustment; would anyone suggest another sight for the rear that I can use with the Dawson on the front sight? I'm looking for a rear sight that doesn't require any tweaking and allows for elevation adjustment.

Thanks,

John

As I mentioned above, if you wait until the end of July, Williams Gunsight will have the adjustable firesights available for sale. If you need them now, the Dawson with the .160 front will be dead on at 25 yards with CCI Mini-Mag ammo.
