Purchased the new M&P .22lr two weeks ago. Took it out the first time and the slide stuck every round. Gunsmith said the polymer frame was cracked by the safety and it was the third one he has seen. Anyone else having issues with these pistols?

Mine is fine. Sorry to hear about yours. S&W will take care of you but what a hassle. I go over any gun I buy closely at the store but that's something that might not show up until firing it.

That sounds unlikely... The frame itself is metal and just sits in the plastic grip frame. It would have to be essentially broken in two for that to cause any problems. Check the side of the hammer where it might come into contact with the frame of the pistol for rub marks. The hammer also seems to gouge into the slide causing it to lock back sometimes... I believe the two are related.

Irritating part was after I did the intial cleaning I noticed it was sticking if the pulled the slide back slowly. Was told that was normal.......

mine does the same thing so i polished the hammer and the bottom of the side block but i dont think its gonna help i would give it another 2k before this thing becomes a paper weight imo its cheaply made.

I used to think that reloading .22LR would be like counterfeiting pennies, but now with the ammo shortage it just might be worthwhile. :o

Bseliger, sorry to hear about your troubles. These guns can be finicky, especially when new, but I doubt you have a cracked frame. I've not heard of a frame cracking issue with the M&P22. Maybe you should have your gunsmith point it out to you.

Maybe it's the third one your gunsmith cracked working on a M&P
.22's ,LOL!! ! Never heard of this issue before.. Yes M&P Freak is right they can be finicky when new.. In IMO I would strip it down and clean all the factory grease out of the gun with a cleaner.. Dry it out with a rag well.. Make sure you got all the factory grease out then lube with GUN OIL.... Per manual I also lube the top of the hammer and the top of the inside of the slide where the hammer rides.. as far as the rails go I do the inner rails on the slide and then inner and upper part of the rail on the frame.. make sure your installing the buffer the corect way flat end to the barrel take down lever and the recoil spring goes inside the cup end of the buffer.. You do have the buffer in your gun right? IMO again the M&P .22 really start to come to life after 2000 rounds of good hot ammo. cci mini mags work well anything with a copper coated bullet and a velocity of 1280fps.. Even if your Polymer frame is cracked where you said there is a inner chassis, metal frame.. I use a little extra gun oil when I was breaking mine in with more cleanings do to the oil gonking up.. But after 2000 rounds everything smooths out and becomes slick.. Take a picture of that crack and show us! it may not be anything to worry about or may not even be a crack.. George

I picked up my M&P 22 at the beginning of February, and at that time the only ammunition I could get was Winchester SuperX HP. I used it in both my M&P 22 and M&P 15-22. In the pistol, it worked fine for the first eight magazine loads (100 rounds), but then I experienced failures to strip off new rounds on one magazine (I had three). I changed to Blazer bulk and CCI Standard Velocity bulk, which are sometimes available here locally, and have had ZERO malfunctions in around 750 rounds.

In my M&P 15-22, the Winchester SuperX HP had about four failures to feed where the round was bent at a 20° angle (out of 300 rounds). I try to stick to CCI Tactical for my 15-22, but it is getting harder to find, so it's getting a diet of the same Blazer and CCI SV as the pistol. Since dropping the Winchester ammo, I have had ZERO malfunctions in either firearm.

Gunsmith sent it back to s&w so I never got a chance to see the crack. It is entirely possible that I misunderstood where/ what was cracked. I hope the problem is resolved the first time and doesn't turn into a lemon.

Congrats on the new M&P 22.Good Luck on the repairs.
My daughter's M&P 22 is on it's second trip to S&W due to the Slide rubbing or catching causing issues with the operation of the firearm. First time they returned it (repaired burrs and replaced front sight). Unknown what burrs were repaired or why front sight was replaced.
Called S&W and they could not answer what was done.
Back at range after two magazine loads issue returned. So it's back at S&W again.
It is not a cleaning/lube or ammo issue
Note Purchased two M&P 22 for Christmas 2012. The other one works great.
Second M&P will shoot Remington Golden Bullets, Thunder bolts, American Eagle, Federal Target Grade, and Winchester Super X.
Have not been able to find any CCI yet.
Fun firearm to shoot.

For what these 22's cost versus other. 22 pistols you shouldn't have to debur or clean up anything. I have no doubt s&w will take of the issue, just a little disappointed considering only one mag went through it. Glad I purchased the Sig Sauer sp2022 instead of the m&p 9mm as of right now

George, yes the buffer was installed and correctly. Im hoping for something more detailed when it comes back so I have some good info to share

Only had maybe 3-4 Fail To Feeds and a few stove pipes. I will try to get back to the range this weekend using more CCI standard velocity to see how it does.

Maybe that's why some people have better results after 1000 rounds of break-in. It takes awhile for these parts to wear together. I just helped it along by polishing. It would be interesting to have members post pictures of the wear pattern of the bottom breach block.

Every M&P22 and Walther P22 that I've tried Federal bulk ammo in had FTF and stove pipes. It's because it's underpowered for those guns and they short cycle. Watch how far the empties fly, barely make it out of the gun. Use hotter ammo like Mini-Mags or Remington Golden.

Glad I purchased the Sig Sauer sp2022 instead of the m&p 9mm as of right now

To be fair, the 9mm is actually made by S&W and is miles ahead of the 22 in quality. I do love my sp2022 as well though... Pick up a stainless guide rod once your polymer one gets all chewed up; they are super slick...

If you call S&W and ask about the M&P 22 having slide friction issues.
They will tell you there are no known issues about the slide as I have seen stated here on this forum.
Received E-mail from S&W today concerning our M&P 22 stating 3 to 4 weeks in repair center for repairs, NO Parts.
Does not state what parts.

Before I returned the M&P 22 to S&W the first time I compared it to our other M&P 22.
Both have the same wear patterns on the hammer area. No issue with second M&P22.
Sorry I did not take pictures.

Good Luck on receiving Good Infor, S&W does not provide alot of infor on their repair order slips. Don't be surprised if it comes back with new front sight.

I bought mine last month and have run several hundred rounds thru it without a jam or anything. (knocking on wood right now) I love this little pistol and my next one will be the M&P 9mm Shield. Hope they get yours fixed quickly..you will love it.

As far as ammunition, since everyone is suggesting a hotter bullet, I only had the oppurtunity to shoot one mag, and it contained Winchester 36 gr, 1280 fps and hollow point copper plated. The slide was sticking when I would let it go slowly before I even put one bullet through it. After one mag it felt like the slide had a pound of sand in it.
