M&P 32-20

Lately I have seen a lot of info on the 32-20 and decided to purchase one w/ 3 boxes of ammo. It has all matching sn#s 83624, a 6" barrel, square butt. THERE IS NO TRADEMARK, and THERE IS NO MADE IN USA. In fact the only stamping is on the barrel. Last pat date on top is dec 29 14. on the left side is SMITH & WESSON, AND ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF BARREL IS 32 W.C.F. CTG . The grips are checked walnut w/ smooth dia shape around the grip screw. There is a small medalian that is recessed into the grip leaving a stepdown lip from the grip face to the medalian face. I question the grips and the fact there is no stamping on either side of frame. any info would be appreciated. pictures will follow as soon as I get wife to take them - thanks Bill

...no "Made in USA" makes it before mid 1922...no trademarks probably means circa World War One...

No logo suggests it was made in 1917, 1918, or 1919. During the Great War, the logo stamp was not used. Serial number suggests 1919 ship date. The revolver should have large gold medallion walnut service stocks.

The closest .32-20 M&P SN I have listed is 849xx which shipped in 1/20 so yours probably shipped shortly prior to that. Additionally, SN 81287, the first .32-20 with a heat treated cylinder, was made in 9/19. In any event, the lack of markings on yours is correct for that manufacturing period. S&W logos stopped being stamped during WWI and began again by 1921. MADE IN U.S.A. did not begin until about mid-1922.
