Hey all! I'm new to the forum and came here because I needed advice on the M&P. I decided about six months ago that I really wanted an M&P 357c. Unfortunately now that I have the money, I've found out they don't make them anymore. I have found one 357c for sale on line but I think it's probably too expensive ($570 + shipping + transfer fees). Plus there appears to be a sizable gap between the top of the barrel and the top of the hole in the end of the slide, so maybe there's something wrong with it. Anyway my question is:

If I buy an M&P 40c and get an aftermarket .357 sig barrel for it, are there any safety concerns, and do I have to change anything other than the barrel? Also does it throw the sights off because of the difference in rounds? If so, how much? I'd really appreciate any info you could give me on this.

I sold mine Only because it was a bit heavy for extended carry, and a bit wide for my hand.

Didn't notice that gap, but they seller should be able to tell you if the
gun runs right or not.

$570 is an ideal price.

Much lower recoil than my Glock 33, even with hot (1,450 fps, or more)

Double Tap ammo.

I'm not an expert, but from what I have read, the 357 and 40 barrels will work perfectly in the .40 Compacts, but maybe just the S&W 357
tubes.

I'm not a .40 fan these days, but know some out there are very devoted to it.

After I buy a 9mm Shield, I will probably pick up a 45 Compact as well
for a house and range gun.

It would be my 5th M&P.

I've been emailing Smith about the SHIELD and possibly chambering for
.357 SIG in this new kid on the block.

Also for them to sell 357 SIGs to the public once again.

Best of luck with landing that 357C, it will be well worth the price.

I have the M&P 40 Full Size. I then bought 9mm and 357 Sig S&W factory barrels. No problems at all. I cannot answer specifically for the compact model.

I have a 40c (which I got new for $468 plus tax), and ordered a 357c barrel from S&W in March. They backordered it for me, and said it might be a while before they made another batch, but that's it's still in production. Part number for the barrel is 399600000.

They just charged my CC ($89 shipped), so I expect it next week. For under $600, you ought to be able to get a compact with factory barrels in both calibers. Nothing else needs changed.

Really? Now that is actually really good news. Did you call them directly or deal through the internet? Because I think I'd like to talk to them ASAP if they're still making the barrels.

Did you buy that 357 SIG or barrel yet?

Plenty of good loads out there to experiment with.

I have a some what different story about the 40 and 40c of which I have both. At the time I did not want to wait for a factory barrel I bought and used a Storm Lake 357SIG barrel in my M&P40c. I also ordered the factory barrel for my nearly new full size 40 M&P. I must say that with both these barrels that I shoot very accurately, the only problem is the cost and availability of 357SIG ammunition!

If I were you I would go ahead and get the 40C and either wait for a back ordered factory barrel or for about double the costs of a factory one get a Storm Lake, can not say much about the Lone Wolf ones!

My 40C is my EDC as well as the full size 45 in my vehicle!
