M&P 357SIG Discontinued?

I saw several new in the showcase 357sigs at the S&W Retail Store.. if anyone really wants one. That was last week, I am sure they have them.

Yeah, that wouldn't work since I need a 5" barrel for my gun. S&W hasn't come out with that particular barrel length in 357sig, so I had to buy one from Storm Lake as an aftermarket barrel. Guess S&W won't be coming out with it at all now... It's starting to look like I should have stuck with the 4.25" barrelled gun because that barrel is the one you are showing in your post I believe. I ended up paying $160 for an aftermarket one. Oh well too late now...

This news sucks to be honest. What if our slides crack or something? Are they going to replace them? I can't imagine it's too difficult to make .357sig's when you produce .40's either. Why would anyone shed the best pistol caliber on Earth after they've gained so much LE attention just because of it? Absurd...

While I'm not happy about it, I understand why. I've purchased two 357 M&P's in the past. Both at a heavy discount because they were sitting in my LGS case longer than they should (or would ave if they were any other caliber.) I believe the price of factory ammo is the deterrent for private ownership here. If you plan to shoot it allot, you almost need to reload.
p.s.I also have a M&P 40pro with a storm lake 357 sig barrel. This is my favorite of my M&P's.

the 40 and the 357 slides are the same, so don't sweat it...

The shop I frequent has new M&P357s' for $499, and I think I saw tge piece on the Smith web sight too.

I love the .357Sig...have the compact and it's fabulous. I have the 40c as well but prefer the .357. I reload so it's nice to be able to shoot a variety of range loads...it can be stoked pretty good or brought down to a comfortable load for fun.

I wouldn't think that LEO agencies that recently made the switch to the S&W 357SIG would have anything to worry about. S&w, if they are discontinuing 357SIG, will probably only discontinue retail sales. Just like LEO agencies can still get certain 3rd Gens.

Have the FS M&P in 40 with an OEM Smith drop in barrel in 357 sig. Guess I've got a keeper. The Gold Dot 125's work great in the 357.

Glad I got my Full Size a couple of years ago. I also got a 40S&W barrel and it is my winter time EDC piece.

That really wouldn't make much sense. It would have continued to gain market share with LE as it continued showing it's merits. They could have continued public sales as well if they were to continue making them. It's quite simple to make them according to market demand instead of just pumping them out. They no longer even make factory barrels. I wonder if they just did not like .357 and SIG stealing some of .40 S&W's thunder. They may have seen that as being bad for business. Possibly why you don't see a 10mm as well.

Did an internet search which lead me to this thread. I was wanting to purchase three .357sig M&P's. A compact, full size, and 5" Pro model(which was never made). Now I'll have to settle for buying Glocks as Sigs are overpriced imo.

If it doesn't make sense to you, Then tell me why LEO's can still purchase some 3rd Gens while the general public can't? Does that make sense?

Just did a quick look and they are on the main site (S&W)?as well as a few others dealer sites.
Given that law enforcement seems to be swinging back to 9mm, I'd just hang loose fir a bit and get a carried a lot, slightly used M&P or SIG P226 or 229 when they hit the market.

Gentlemen; I am sure the info is right, S&W is prob putting the .357SIG M&P on a "back burner" due to weak civilian sales. I do know S&W will make just about anything, firearms-wise for an Agency, if they get an order/ contract. So M&P .357's will still be with us, just in limited numbers.
I do know that Gl**k has had trouble getting the G31/32 models to last, due to the extreme power the .357SIG cartridge has. The S*G229 gives a better service life over the long run than just about any other pistol. 'Course the dang things are built like a MBT(Main Battle Tank...lol!) and feel like it on your hip. Heavy & Clunky. Still a good pistol, nontheless. YMMV, of course, just MHO.
I think I heard or read that the Texas DPS are/ were? going to switch or allow Troopers to carry 9mm M&P's. Anyone remember anything like that, please chime in. Thanx.
BTW, just as an aside; Ruger does not stamp their pistols ".40 S&W". Instead, they stamp their pistols ".40 Auto". Interesting, no?

I still see the M&P in .357Sig regularly on the auction sites...Lost Lake rightly pointed out that this is an old thread and it is obvious that Smith continues to make it.

Part of the problem may be that like all calibers of ammunition, the .357 Sig is hard to find ay any sort of reasonable price. Especially when you look at defensive hollow point ammo.

A lot of law enforcement agencies are going to the less expensive 9mm again. Los Angeles Sheriff's Office just purchased M&P 9mm pistols to start issueing to their deputies.

I have a FS M&P in .40, and a friend of mine gave me several thousand rounds of .357 Sig Speer Gold Dot hollow points a few years ago when his agency went to .40 S&W.

I bought an OEM .357 Sig barrel, and I love the round and the pistol. I got a deal on a Glock 32 with an additional .40 S&W barrel. It too is a great pistol.

With the Secret Service and the Air Marshals being the only large Federal Agencies using the .357 Sig cartridge, I don't know how long it will stay in other LE agencies armories. Onlt time and budget constraints will tell.

I've never heard of the Glocks having longevity problems in any caliber. Interesting. You know that from LE? I didn't know Sigs held up very well either. I've read amount their stainless slides cracking and never gave them any more thought after reading that.
