M&P .380 Bodyguard thread?

No problems with mine firing any type of ammunition and mine is the first version with the insite laser. Like it so much I just bought 4 more magazines for it. Some have had problems but like I said ours has been very reliable with everything it's been fed.

Mine was a failure when new. FTF or FTE at least one per mag and the laser crapped out in a month. Got a new laser on warranty and sent gun back to S&W for repair. great customer service and 500 trouble free rounds since returned. Now often in my pocket. Trigger no problem if have revolver experience

I purchased the M&P bodyguard without the laser last year. I had been happily putting hundreds of rounds through it without any major problems. I had only a couple of light strikes in over 500 rounds.

Yesterday, I took the gun out of the safe and as I was doing so I heard something drop on the floor. I picked up the object and discovered that it was a small, semi- cylindrical piece of metal. Looking at the gun carefully, I found that rear end of the firing pin was missing. That's where the metal piece came from! The damned firing pin broke in half! I will be contacting S&W tomorrow to get it repaired under their warranty. I am willing to give it one more chance, but if this happens again, the gun will be gone. The round count was 750 factory loads.

No gun is perfect, not even a Glock. That's the first I heard of this problem with a BG. I have heard about the light strikes, but I have not experienced any of those. Through 500 rounds now with mine. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for all the responses to this thread. Obviously this is a popular little pistol and the large majority of owners are more than happy with it.

I had been using a Keltec P32 for my smallest pistol, and had 2 of them. I am about to sell the second one...I traded the first as part of the money for the Bodyguard. Here in PA, there is no sales tax on a trade.

Just got a brand new one today as a companion to my 40 Shield. I do like the looks and feel of the BG. My only concern is that my wife may want to trade me her J-frame for it. Taking it to the range tomorrow to see how it shoots, but I expect it will be fine. I will report back.

Going to make this short:
Wife has put 5,400 rounds through it. All reloads Ammo, from a friend. Galloway trigger job, after the first 200 rounds (Did it myself - Was fun). She is AWESOMELY Accurate (Her First Weapon and that goes even for a Stick / Rock). I remember her crying first time pulling the trigger and saying, "I will never touch this again!!!", that was late 2013. She shoots every Thursday, at 10:30am and is addicted to it!! She told me this week, every time I talk about guns, it makes her finger itch!!
Need I say More? She loves her BG380 and want no other!!!

When I was looking for my first/carry gun, it was between the bodyguard, the 9mm shield, and the ruger lc9s. I guy I worked with had the lc9s, and my stepdad had the bodyguard, and the shield. His shield has a trigger job done. I tried all three one day at the range. The bodyguard is a nice gun, but I didn't really like it. Felt to small in my hand, and I didn't really feel controlled while shooting it. The shield was nice. Felt good in my hand and controllable, but even with the trigger job it felt to long of a pull and stacked at the end. I tried my buddies lc9s next, instantly loved it. Felt good and controllable in my hand, it's pretty much the same size as the shield. The trigger on the lc9s is what sold me. Short, light, and smooth. Tried each gun a few more times but settle d on the ruger. I have been thinking of looking at the bodyguard again though for a pocket carry gun.

The Bodyguard trigger takes some time to get accustomed. I like the BG. Excellent pocket pistol.

Wondering if you needed to replace any parts or repairs with that many rounds?
