M&P 40/9 Conversion

Oh yes I am 9mm all the way as well. My M&P40 only has a few hundred through it of .40 and thousands of 9mm. I don't personally think the price difference is worth shooting in .40s&w. I can practice with 9mm for a fraction of the price then switch barrels and carry some .40 self defense rounds or my new favorite .357 Sig. Yes I will practice with my .40 and .357 but I'm not gonna lie I will only load 2 mags of 40 and 2 mags of .357 SIG then the rest is all 9mm. I know all guns can't simply use a barrel swap. It does seem though that a lot of the gun models that are offered in both calibers are able to use the 9mm barrel or at least a conversion barrel to shoot it in 9mm.

I feel dumb, I just finished purchasing an M&P9 and another APEX Kit and AEK trigger for it.

I could have just gotten a fricken 9mm barrel!?

Can any of the HARD CORE S&W guys on here confirm this is Kosher? What about recoil springs?

Its totally kosher man check the s&w PDFs of the part numbers. The guns are nearly identical besides obviously barrel and magazines. guide rods are same too.

I'd give you $150 for your 9mm(after you install the trigger kit). That will help you towards a M&P 40. You're welcome.

Not sure I'd go that far.

I'd still rather have just a 9mm. I can have 17rds vs 15, cheaper ammo, and I can get power close to that of a 40 with the right ammo (Federal +P+ 9mm has more "bite" than a 40 out of the same gun w/ a conversion). Not trying to start up the endless debate, and not hating on 40. Just an opinion.

Maybe you are missing the point. You can have ALL those 9mm advantages AND have a .40 besides, if you buy the .40 and then a $65 barrel.

And right now, there is .40 ammo on the shelves but no 9mm.

And you can't get the momentum of a .40 round out of a 9mm. .40 will always be bigger than 9mm. Besides, I wouldn't shoot +P+ out of any semi-auto, especially a plastic one. ;)

I just ordered a Shield 9mm barrel from S&W for my 40. When I bought my Shield 40 I did so thinking ammo would be easier to find than 9mm. Instead I'm having no problems finding 9mm but NO .40! This way I can practice with 9mm but carry .40 SD ammo.

It is nice to be able to practice with the cheaper 9 and its nice too Cuz like he said you can use the same mags with a 357 barrel I just got one in the mail just waiting to find some 357 SIG ammo and will finally be able to shoot it I heard the 357 SIG was pretty nice

And around here, there is .40 and 10mm everywhere, but no 9mm, it's a plot.:D

Managed to get 2 17 round magazines :D
$50 each isnt too bad since S&W charges about $42 right?

Both ran me about $105 shipped. It isn't much more than S&W would charge. Sadly it was a private seller so I have nothing to share :/

Don't feel bad I bought 2 for 100 also a few months ago just in case and sure enough my back orders still haven't gone through.

How is the accuracy with the 9mm barrel? Are they having the same issues as the older factory 9mm pistols?

Ordered a factory 9mm barrel for my 40c from midway back in January. I just received an email a few days ago stating that it has shipped.

I ordered the S&W 9mm barrel from Midway about three weeks ago and I got an email stating it shipped two days ago. Cost was $70 including shipping. They must be getting caught up on all the back orders. Now if I could only find some 9mm magazines. I won't pay inflated prices and I'm even willing to wait awhile but I haven't found a vendor that I can back order them from or even be placed on a waiting list yet. Since the mags I want are just for range use I'll have to use my .40 mags until I round up some proper 9mm ones.

The accuracy is very good even with cheap ammo I'm going out shooting today to try my new 1911 and the m&p I'll take pix of the 40 then the 9 i haven't been able to find any 357 but eventually I'll get to to test it too
