Just like my three other M&Ps... 100% reliable, accurate, and with excellent fit and finish.

They didn't have a rental 9c available when I was test driving last year. They did have a much used (and precious little cleaned) M&P40c though. The little gun though being a bit waspy as it lightened while being emptied, shot very well and never missed a beat. Even though having been as abused as a coal miners shovel. The little fart was QUITE accurate.

My only experience was test driving a XD compact, what makes you leary of a compact 40? I'm thinking about a M&P 40c myself.

My 40c is good

It's been a while since I posted on this forum. I'm not sure this reply is going where I intend.

I have a 2007 M&P40c with 1000 rounds through it. This is a carry piece, so I don't shoot it much.

Two complaints: First, it has rusted. Carried IWB in Florida you might not be surprised. Rust is not severe, and it does not affect function, but I am disappointed it rusted.

Second, the short grip is tiring to shoot. Same is true of the G27 (which is worse.) Matter of fact, the gun is surprisingly soft. But, without support from the lower fingers, the middle guy takes a beating.

Positives are reliability, accuracy, pretty good trigger, easy to conceal.

It's a great carry gun for its caliber & size.

PNUC,
Did your earlier 40c variant have the pinky finger magazine base plate?
Will one of them fit your early OEM magazine's?
Thanks!

I have the same vintage 40c band have no problem with finger extension mags. And I have no worry about a compact .40, this is the gun S&W had in mind when designing the line. As everybody else said, I couldn't be happier with it. I hope to get it a big little brother soon, 45c.:D

Yes, S&W supplied one mag with the extended base. It helps.

However, for me, the gun is much easier to conceal with the flush mag, so that's pretty much what I practice with. Florida, mostly T-shirts and shorts, the small grip makes all the difference.

Check how the extended mag fits with your carry rig, your garments, and if it works for you, God bless.

I picked up a 40c the other day and finally got to see how she runs today, I think impressive would pretty much sum it up. Really comfortable to shoot with the full gamut from mild to barn burners, and, very accurate. It should make for a nice carry gun. I'm anxious to try other M&P's now.

I got my M&P 40C early 2007. I've fired hundreds of rounds through it with no failure to fire so far. It's been nothing but accurate and reliable. I also like the better trigger pull it has compared to my sigma. I currently carry it as my primary CCW. I have nothing but good things to say about it.

I bought mine used with Trijicon night sights. It looked new from top to bottom. It is now my CCW for semi-autos. It has seen around 1,000 rounds at the range and it has been reliable and accurate. I supplement practice with a M&P 9c when shooting more than 50 rounds per session. A bit of arthritis makes this necessary.

Got my M&P 40 compact about 1 month ago and I love it. Before I bought it I tried Sig P239, various H&K, Kahr, Glock and 1 or 2 others. M&P was most comfortable for me.

The only thing is I am thinking of selling it to get the one with the thumb safety. Kind of a mental thing I have. Of course I already have about 4 or 5 holsters for this gun and the choice of holsters for the model with the safety is slim

It took me a few months to get my mind around the no safety thing. In fact, I carry only in my vehicle and with a snap cap in the chamber. This is not going to be permanent, but; it allows me to gain confidence that my safety skills are as good as I think. I have been doing this for a couple months and the snap cap will come out around the first of the year if nothing bad happens. I will probably go through the same process with carrying on my person. As a short heavy guy I am having a hard time find a holster and position for comfortable concealment.

I am 5ft 11, 245 pounds. I have th 40 compact and use either a Desantis Scorpion or a comp-tac MTAC. Both very comfortable for me at 3:30 to 4:00 while seated and 3:00 while walking around.
