M&P 40 compact slide stamping

My M&P 40c does not have the word stainless stamped on the side of the slide, and a magnet sticks to it like nothing else. Is my slide made of steel? It is advertised to be made out of stainless.

My wife has it on hers and I do not on mine.I had never thought about it not being stainless ,but a magnet does stick to both.Got me thinking Magnets do not stick to stainless or so I have been told.


Edit: Seems like a magnet will stick to stainless well atleast all the "stainless" I have in the house.

Edit2: 400 series stainless steel is magnetic

Mine does stay stainless, & a magnet sticks to it. GARY

Some stainless a magnet will stick to, I get this. But why is the stamping missing? Just a thought. It could be just hardened steel, unless you were to do a rockwell testing how would you know. Maybe some were made from steel.

They stopped stamping them "stainless". Still stainless though.
