M&P Shield 40, failure to feed problems. Factory ammo, haven't tried changing mags yet. Occurs with both mags that came with gun after firing 6-7 rounds goes out of battery. Has maybe 200rounds down range; so it's brand new in my book. Guide rod maybe. Thoughts?

If it occurs randomly and nearly closes, but fails to fully return to battery: Strip it and carefully re-seat the recoil spring assembly keeping it well centered.

If it always happens on the last round in the magazine: Disassemble the magazines and flip the mag springs around underneath the follower. If the spring is backwards, there may be inadequate pressure to the nose of the last cartridge.

Does the bullet nose make it into the chamber, or is it stuck nose down in the magazine?

Not enough information to draw any conclusions.

Do you have a picture of the failure? The easiest way to help is to know exactly what's happening.
Does it happen at a certain point in the magazine i.e. the first or last round or the 6th?
When did you last clean the gun?

Sorry guys I posted on so many different forums in search of help. I finally contacted S&W they offered to send a replacement guide rod or me send in and they replace the guide rod. I sent it in came back with a new guide rod. I then shot about 400 rounds thru it with the same magazines with zero failures. I then sold it and purchased a Glock.

I just didn't feel right after that, being it was brand new. I know it happens and can happen with any brand. After a little research others had same issue and remediation was to replace guide rod. Happy with the Glock

That's interesting I got rid of my Glock for catastrophic failure, meaning I could not clear with a simple tap and rack and went back to a revolver and now I'm as happy as a pig in do-do. I never trusted semi-automatics to begin with and that last failure was the final straw after never having a range session without multiple malfunctions but fairly easy to clear.

Interesting to note that Glock just recalled all of the new FBI 17M's. And the Feds have barely had them a month.

So the point is, it can happen to the 'so called' best of them out there and when it does you'll really feel let down.:o
