M&P 40 vs M&P 40c

I have read that some opt to leave original sear spring in the MA complient pistols... Should I install all the parts that come with the kit?

I have a MA M&P9c with 10lb trigger. All I changed is the sear and trigger return spring. I used the apex sear and a standard trigger return spring bought from brownels. The MA trigger return spring is heavier. I did not change the sear spring. Leaving the heavier MA sear spring in actually helps give it a better reset. My result is a 5lb trigger from 10lbs. This cost about $43 vs $80 for the whole kit.

Changing the sear is easy. The trigger spring is a challenge lining up all the parts. Apex has videos on youtube on how to do it.

Check your trigger weight first though, just incase it's not a MA trigger.

I am in MASS and yes the triggers suck.

Do you have 10 round mags ??? If so it's a most likely a MASS gun, we are stuck with 10 round mags as well as the sucky triggers.

I have had Greg Derr do trigger work for me as well as a few other things to both my M&P's (a 40 FS and a 40c).

Greg Derr - Precision Pistolsmith

You can have a Gun Smith check both of your guns and have them do a trigger job or you can install the APEK kit or kits or you can get a S&W trigger sear and install that.

I bought both of my guns new, my FS had a trigger pull around 10 Lbs, it worked down to around 8 Lbs, my compact came with a 15 Lb trigger that worked down to 12 Lbs.. Both guns are now around 5 Lbs after Greg Derr worked his magic on them.

Myself I would have a gunsmith sweeten the trigger.

Hope that helps.

Just wondering about the 10 round mags, I've been doing some homework on the M&P 40c and it states they all come with 10rd mags, 10+1 to be exact, but the sales person that I purchased my M&P 40c yesterday stated it came with 9rd mag 9+1??? Is this a possible MA 40c, what else besides the SKU# can I look for and is that SKU still accurate?

I'm in mass as well, I bought my shield and my FS .40 new (at 4seasons) and had Greg do both of the triggers on them. (5.5# pull on each).
Actually cheaper than the Apex kit and he does a great job.
Look around locally you should be able to find a good gunsmith
near you that can tell you exactly what you've got with both guns.

OK, I'll bite on this old brisket since the problem is still very relevant today.

I've "fixed " at least a dozen of the MA version M&P's and Shields
Here are my thoughts .
First, you need to know what you have as what you need to do depends on where you start. IF you don't have access to a trigger scale, try a fishing scale. If you don't have a fishing scale, try hanging a 5 gal bucket off the trigger and fill it with water till the trigger breaks. (Then weigh the bucket.)

If you have a MA gun, the trigger will be in the 10-12# range. IF you have a stock 48 state gun, it will be closer to the 6-7# range ( depending on production date /how "used" it is.)

Assuming you have a MA gun, there are two easy DIY ways to cure the trigger. Both involve replacing the sear with an Apex brand. ( You can save $40 by heavily reworking the factory sear via Burwell's online instructions but I don't recommend it for a newbe gunsmith). Replacing the sear alone, will get you into a crisp 5.5 -6.2# range. (Read: just right for a carry gun.) Replacing the sear and the trigger return spring, can get you down into the 3.5-4.2# range (which IMHO is great for a range gun but too light for a carry gun.) In either case, leave the sear spring alone. It's heavier but works well in either combination. The Apex sear is $40 all over the net. The trigger return is $3.33 from Brownells. Elbow grease is free if you want to polish some parts while your in their.

As for the complete Apex kit, you can invest if you want but I think 90% of the improvement can be found in the above mentioned parts alone.
