I'm posting this for anyone that has fired both. I had the
Glock 27, and felt the recoil was too "Snappy". I couldn't seem to get a good hold of it, and it was no fun to shoot. I'm considering another 40, and wondered how the handling and recoil feels in the 40c compared to the G27.

I had a Glock 27 for 10-12 years or so and finally hefted a M&P compact 40 and fell in love with the 'grippiness' as compared to the Glock. Bought the M&P and sold the Glock. Couldn`t be happier. John

I have both, and prefer the ergos on the Smith over the Glock. I really can't tell much difference in recoil between the two, and either would serve your purpose.

Slightly off your topic, but I just purchased a Shield in 9mm over a Glock 26 simply due to the ergonomics/fit/feel in my hand, particularly the trigger. On the Glock, the trigger simply felt like it was in the wrong place; the Shield- perfect. How they feel in your hand is very important.

I have the Shield in 9mm also, and like the feel of it in my hand. It shoots well, and I had a better grip over my G27. I'm siding towards the 40c, but will need to handle it first. I like both Glock, and S&W, both make great guns. One of the factors buying the Shield over the G26 was size. The shield being thinner, and single stack won me over. Glock really need to look into introducing a single stack compact.

With the better grip on the M&P 40C & a slightly lower bore axis there might be a slight difference in recoil. Besides - the S&Ws are made in the USA.

I had a Glock 21 & G23 & the grips never bothered me but after shooting M&P I can tell the difference.

I prefer the M&P 40c over the Glock. The Glock doesn't feel right in my hands and I don't like the grip angle.

That being said, a Glock is a great firearm. Buy the one that feels the best to you.

Shot both - grip on the G27 felt more natural to me so carry it and sold the Smith (to my son, who prefers it). Same with the 45's. But, as stated above, handle/shoot both and get the one that feels better to YOU. Can't lose either way.

Come to M&P forum you'll have people saying go M&P, they'd say to Glock on GlockTalk. That said I prefer the M&P series, grew up with a father in LEO, first gun I shot was a glock. For the longest period of time I thought of Glock as the only gun I liked, then I shot an M&P. I no longer own Glocks and in fact I have 3 G27 mags with the +2 extension brand new never used I will sell you for $25 each (they're worth about $35 because of the +2).

My vote is for the .40c but if you pick the 27 and want the +2 mags, shoot me a PM.

I'll not be picking up another G27, didn't like the grip, or recoil. Just wasnt a fun gun for me to shoot. Looking at the Shield 40, or maybe the XD. Will need to see how they feel, and look.

The only .40 that had nasty recoil was the Kahr PM40, of course that gun was a jam o matic as well, sold it bought a Shield and couldn't be happier.

No getting around physics, .40 is a stout round and the Shield is not a huge gun, but at least for me, recoil is manageable.
