M&P .40c trigger slap ?

I am assuming its the lighter ammo, I ran 50 rounds of 165 grain speer gold dots through my 40c, very snappy and my trigger finger was hurting during fire.

I had no such issue with 180 grain ball ammo, should I just stick with 180 sd ammo or should my trigger not be paining me?

Is this your first 40c? they are often called "snappy". My carry is a 40c and I don't notice the snap or a slap and my finger has never hurt. huh you have me interested. if its your first 40 cal compact it could be you just need time with it at the range and all that will go away.

Yes its my first m&p .40c, but I have been shooting .40 for quite awhile. Thank you for responding, I guess I am the only one with this issue.

Late getting in on this but I just picked up my 40c today and wiped it down, ran a boresnake through it, and fired 40 rounds through it. I was surprised by the trigger slap when I shot 180 grainers, but mine seemed to mellow out with the lighter Gold Dots, Hydrashock and Starburst. I thought I felt slightly less slap when I positioned my finger a bit further in on the trigger.

I also frequently shoot 165 grain Gold Dot JHP through my 40C and it does indeed have a snappy but manageable recoil. My 180 grain range ammo doesn't have the same recoil as the duty carry stuff. I can't comment on the trigger finger discomfort as I haven't experienced that. The trigger on my 9C and 45C were the pits until I installed an Apex Tactical hard sear and ultimate striker block in them. Now they're absolutely teriffic. My 40C has had a great trigger from day one right out of the box.

Is this thread about "trigger slap", or are we thinking about recoil?

I have a few 40's, and they all have a fair amount of recoil. But trigger slap, I don't know how that would be happening in a M&P.

By the way, great caliber isn't it?

For me the problem is not recoil but a very definite pain in the trigger finger from the "slap"( for want of a better word) from the recoil action. It feels like the pain travels through the pad of the finger to the finger nail. I've shot 40's for years in 1911's, Glocks, and the S&W 4006 but never experienced this feeling. As I stated above I moved my finger further onto the trigger and it seemed to be milder, but I only shot a couple of rounds. All in all I can live with it but it is uncomfortable and different.

wow I have not experienced that. that would be no fun to have your finger hurt. so are you thinking its a vibration from recoil back to the trigger? the two people with this issue, are your M&P's stock? I have only felt this kind of thing when I have used certain pneumatic tools, unpleasent.

Yea, its trigger slap, I used to get it from one of my ak's until I upraded the fire control group, my .40c is stock, no mods at all, note that when I ran 180's through it, I had no issues, so I am thinking it had to be the lighter loading, no biggie, will just stick with 180 grainers.

What part of the gun would be causing the trigger to slap your finger? The sear? Something must be in the way as the slide comes forward and smacks the trigger into your finger.

None of my M&P's do this.

I don't have a 40c (yet) but do not get trigger slap with my full size M&P but do get trigger slap with my glock 23 with hot loads.

I am glad someone else has mentioned this as I have this problem with my M&P 40 & my 45. No issues with my M&P 9c. THe pain that travels up my finger and into my nail is enough to make you stop firing after only a few rounds

Can you describe what is happening? I have dozens of guns and none have ever trigger slapped me.

Is the trigger being snapped back into your finger?

I've always thought that trigger slap is the slap of the finger on the trigger which makes POI to be left of POA for right handed... Is that a pinch you're getting from trigger joint ? (never had it myself)

No experience here with the 40c but I have had similar pain with a scandium framed 357. In that case I believe it's the trigger gaurd hitting the trigger finger. Wonder if this is similar?

If anyone is still viewing this thread, I too have had a problem of painful trigger finger when firing a S&W 629 8". This was not recoil, or my finger hitting the trigger guard, but pain radiating through the pad of my finger to deep in the finger bone.

It would happen after a round or two, and at the end of six rounds was bad enough for me to stop. It happened every time I tried the gun, so I finally stopped shooting it altogether. I have fired other large caliber guns, and never experienced the same pain. This is why i joined this forum, to find out what this is, or why it happened.

If anyone is still reading this I would love some help.

Don't know what caused it but my trigger finger hurt every time that I shot my 40C so I put the APEX poly trigger in it and presto no more finger pain. I liked it so much that I put it into my full size 9mm too.

I dry fired the M&P 40 with and without the APEX when purchasing mine. I had it installed before leaving the store. It certainly makes a huge difference.
