I just bought my first S&W M&P (longtime Glock man here). I love my Glock 34 but when I decided to go with a .45 the Glock was just not the right fit for my hands. The S&W fits perfectly!

Are there any shortcomings with this pistol that I need to be aware of or modifications that may need done? I have heard about some ejector problems?? And I even heard something about striker problems??

By the way, mine was made in October 2009 and has been in the dealer showcase ever since--probably being dry fired and handled by a LOT of different people over the last year and a half! (I talked them down on the price using just that reasoning!)

Thanks!

Mine was made in August of '09. I am the second owner, baught it after a friend traded it on a .50 cal. He put less than a box through it and I am on my second box about 120 total with no issues. Good luck.....

Mine was tested in September of 2010. I purchased it first hand on Feb 19th, 2011.

I've put between 100 and 200 rounds through it with no malfunctions whatsoever.

I was one of the unfortunate ones who had their front sight blow out, but there is still plenty of it left where I can be accurate with the weapon at 10 yards (working on 20 and 25 yards)

If you have the original box, and it has the fired shells in it, it should have the date on the small envelope. This could be the exact date or very close to date of manufacture.

If I remember right:
On the original case, look at the sticker, near the bottom right between the 2 bar codes, there's a 4 digit code that's small. First number is the year and the next 3 are the number of the day made. ie 9350 would be 2009, December 15 (or so, I'm not good at math)

It's a great gun. I've had one for a while now, lots of rounds through it.... flawless. It is also an unbelievably great gun to shoot. Accuracy and comfort shooting it is more enjoyable than most any 45 I've shot.

My trigger was gritty, at least compared to my 2 S&W wheel guns, so I emailed S&W customer service and they sent a label. Turn around was about 2 weeks, trigger came back a lot better. Still needs 'broke in' after 200 rounds and maybe an Apex kit some time in the future.

But not one problem with feed or eject.

A number of individuals have replaced the factory sear with the Apex sear. I plan to do that in the future. My M&P45 has been totally reliable with reloads using 185 gr. LSWC, 185, 200 & 230 gr. plated, 185 & 230 gr. JHP, 230 gr. FMJ and provides nice tight 1 1/4 to 2 inch groups at 50 ft. I have used 1911's for many years but this gun has made a believer out of me. None of my 1911's were that reliable with such a wide variety of bullet weights and shapes.

M & P 45

I have the 45C. I'm continuously surprised how well this pistol shoots. I've said before when it was stock ..... it had the sorriest trigger of any pistol I had shot. Put a couple hundred rounds down range didn't seem to improve any.

Apex kit fixed ALL THAT.

I also like how easy the pistol is to take down and clean. Just about can do it one handed.

It's fun to shoot and out to 25 yards pretty darn accurate.

It's liken all the reloads too......... just a great little pistol.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

SW .45 Durability

All of the M&P's are very durable. There have been some identified weak points that have been for the most part, corrected.

These are the firing pin (striker), ambi slide release and the sight ampules shooting loose. Most of the parts are available through Brownells and easily installed.

Considering that the pistol has been in service since 2006 and that the identified issues have been addresses, it is doing an amazing job. They are decimating the Glock US LE market and are extremly adept at marketing and have excellent CS.

The .45 platform has been found to be more accurate (anecdotaly) than the 9mm/.40SW. I have a mid size .45 w/ ambi thumb safety on order since January (through my local cop shop) and cant wait to get my hands on it.

The full size .45 I T&E'd was much more accurate in my hands than the 3 9mm's I carry.

Youll be very happy with them.
