Hi,

I'm thinking about purchasing an M&P full size 45 and a 45c. Does anyone know if you can purchase a grip extender for the 45c similar to the X-Grips that are available for the 40c? I like the 4" barrel on the 45c compared to the 3.5" on the 40c. I'd like to keep the same caliber for ease of magazines, holsters, reloading etc.

I'm also considering going with a full size 45 and a 40c if I can't get a grip extender for the 45c. If I go this route this gives me the ability to purchase a conversion barrel for the 40c in the future if I decide to.

What are your thoughts?

never heard of it for the 45acp model.. just get the 40c unless you have something against it, or just want to keep it all 45acp...

A couple of companies make grip extenders for the 45c. They allow you to use a 10 round fullsize mag in the shorter 45c grip. I can't find the links to their site at the moment, maybe someone else can help you out.

In my opinion, if you want a good do-all gun, the 45c is an excellent choice. With the grip extender, you basically have the 45 "mid-size", with the full size grip and 4" barrel. With the 8 round mags, you have a gun that is easier to conceal than the mid size or full size.

I have a full size, and it's pushing the limit of what is concealable under summer attire. The grip is the part that is hardest to hide. Just taking a bit off the grip length makes a world of difference. The 9/40 compacts are just too small for me to shoot well.

If you call S&W, they will send you the finger grip extensions for the 8-round magazine. The finger grips made a world of difference in my shooting expereinces

Why not simply purchase the M&P 45 in both Full & Mid-size models?

That way you have the same full-size frame on both models, which uses the 10-rd magazines, but you get one with the 4.5" slide & barrel and one with the 4" slide & barrel.

Why bother with the 45c if you're just going to use the 10-rd mags?

Fastbolt, I wanted both so I could carry the 45c and the full size for the range. I'd like to have the grip extender for the 45c if I chose to take it to the range or wanted to carry more rounds at times.

That makes sense.

I've also been thinking about picking up a 45c, because the full-size model is just a bit longer in the grip than I care to carry nowadays. I like the heft and balance of the slightly smaller compact model, and it's just enough smaller in the grip that I might be more inclined to carry it than the larger one. ;)

Owning both I much prefer the compact M&P45. It just feels better in hand and will use the larger mags should I choose to employ them. To me the M&P45c is the perfect M&P of the line.

Owning both I prefer the full-size, but there are times when the compact's shorter grip is much easier to conceal.

I have a couple t-shirts under which I can conceal the full-size, but I can conceal the compact under a lot more of them. I'm currently carrying the compact under a not-fitted-but-not-baggy polo type shirt.

The compact shoots almost as well for me as the full-size, but my medium-large hands are more comfortable on the bigger gun, and I do shoot it slightly better than I shoot the compact.

But if I could only have one, it would be the compact, with full-size or 14rd spares. (I have several of each magazine type.)

+1 with mag318 said. I have the 45c and it has the 4"bbl and the shortened carry grip making it a very "all around" 45. Mine has been hiccup free and is very accurate. One of the best shooting 45s I've owned in the last 45 years.
