M&P 45 Midsize, slide not as far forward as it should be.

If I were you, I'd put it up for sale.

I already posted up what I will be doing "If smith says because its just cosmetic they won't try to fix it, then it is what it is, but it will still bug me."

Thanks for the help.

CaffCya,
Ya good idea! This would let you see and let you swap out parts and check the fit.. I'm sure somone will step up to help you out. Post your location. I only have the M&P .45 in a Full size. Best of luck! George

My 45 is BEHIND the rear of the frame by .020"
That's what I thought you were saying, but the picture wasn't clear. The second pic is much better.

I think you may be right and that it's in the barrel lug. I have no idea what the tolerances are supposed to be, but yours is clearly different. A .02" error on the recoil spring guide rod is not an issue for me, but a .02" error on the barrel is.

I'm curious to hear what S&W says.

I will post when I hear from them. If I dont get an email by Wed I will call them.

I know this has been around awhile, but I just got around to measuring mine. My 45c has the slide sitting .015 forward of the frame at the rear, and the recoil spring guide protrudes about the same distance at the front. On my .40c, the slide sits flush, and the RSG sits flush or slightly below. Sorry it took so long. Good luck with yours!

Here is a clearer picture. You can say that m&p's arent precision instruments all you want, but we are talking about CNC machined barrels. Factoring in tool erosion and a drunk operator, NONE of the dimensions should be anywhere near .020" off, let alone have mine be .020" one direction and yours be .020" in the other.

Just looked at my 45c and it looks just like the gun in your photo. I have the Alfred E. Neuman attitude: "What, Me Worry??"

You can call S&W and tell them you need a guide rod due to a blemish/issue and they'll send you one free of charge. I had one with a blemish on my 9c and got one free within a week.

Thanks, but its still not the guide rod, its the barrel causing the issue.

Maybe somone could grease the barrel lug with there barrel out and make a mold with some epoxy pudy and mail it to you. You could check your barrel lug with it with some candle soot that will cause it to print and you may be able to see if there is a issue with yours that way.. Again just a thought. It would bug me too! G

I agree with the OP it might only be $550. to some people but right is right and wrong is wrong it would BUG me too and I would demand it be made right. We don't have to accept thats good enough when somethings not what it should be.

:)
This has nothing to do with the length of the guide rod. The guide rod is correct. Here are some pictures. With the slide off the frame, the guide rod sticks out .035" With the slide on the frame it sticks out .066". A difference of .031". Factoring in that it has to be off by something (my 40c moves .008"), I'd say its .020" off. Last picture is of the rear of the gun, the slide is behind the frame by exactly .020"

I'm a little confused.... don't say it!!! :) I know, what else is new.. The first picture looks like the upper from a 45c, the last picture is the lower from a full size... what am I missing here. I have both sitting in front of me and mine look exactly like yours only the upper and lower are from 2 different guns...

Well, you are right....ish. It's a 45 midsize. 4" barrel upper on 10 round frame :-)

oh, and thanks for the offer, depending on what smith says I may have to take you up on that.

I got an email this morning. I replied with a few more images.

Dear Customer,

Looks normal to me ?

If further assistance is required please reply accordingly.

Sincerely,

Jeff W

That is a poorly worded response CaffCyc. I used to think S&W had good customer service, but my opinion is changing. I would go so far as to say that response is rude.

Did you include your phone number with your email? If you did, I would have called to talk to you because you clearly have questions and might be able to clear them up over the phone.

A curt answer like that is unacceptable to me.

I agree with you. My phone number was included to Smith. I am going to let this go by email, and see how long it takes to have SOMETHING happen.

I love my 40c, and short of this the 45m is great as well, but I do have plans of a 9mm in the future. This is the first time I wondered if it was going to be a M&P.

Today I got what seems to be an automated reply from smith.

We would suggest returning the product for our examination.

That is a standard response. I don't know if it's automated or not.

I have an M&P 40 that is giving me some trouble. I emailed S&W about it and included my address, phone number, model of gun, SKU and serial number. They responded with the exact same email you got asking for all that info again. I'm positive they didn't actually read my initial email.

Their customer service is not as good as it used to be. This may be due to the massive increase in gun sales over the last 1.5 years.
