Has anyone ever had a M&P 45 or 9mm "tuned" for accuracy? I have been thinking of buying a 1911 because of it's accuracy but after reading a few of the forum posts I realized it is not a buy and shoot situation. I was wondering if instead of spending the money on another gun, not a bad thing, but put the money into one of my existing M&P's I might be able to get close to the 1911's accuracy.
I realize that the bottom line ends with me as the person squeezing the trigger and I have no delusion's as to my ability but would like to know what the best I could hope for with a M&P might be.
Thanks in advance, Frank.

Define accuracy, do you want one small hole at 100 meters? A 10" paper plate at 25 meters?

Who notes most folks can't hold a pistol like a machine rest.

My M&P45 is a tackdriver already. And it shoots anything I stuff into it.

My 45FS will shoot 3-4 inch groups at 25 yards with factory ammo. I don't know how much more accurate you can make these pistols with aftermarket parts, but I would imagine that you can tighen the groups up a bit more, especially after you've found the right bullet or handload. If you're after a bulls eye pistol, you're probably better off with a tuned 1911. If you're after a steel gun, the M&P with some trigger and sight work will work fine. Don't overlook sights. A set of Heinies or similar will enhance a good shooter's ability.

I have no definition for what I want as far as accuracy is concerned. I was asking if the M&P platform could be improved upon and if so, in relation to the one hole group a 1911 could be made to do, what is the realistic group a M&P could be tuned to. As I said in my original post I am well aware that the person squeezing the trigger is the limiting factor but I would still be interested in what and/or who could do this.
Thanks again for the replies and your patience with my ignorance.
Be safe, Frank.

Accuracy

I have a Glock Model 22, .40 S&W and a Colt Commander 1911 .45. At 25 yards shooting slow fire off hand on a good day I get about 6" groups with my Glock, 4" groups with my Colt. Both are pretty much as they came new. I'm sure the only real difference in accuracy is the trigger. You just can't beat a single action trigger.

My M&P9 is as accurate as my STI 45. I can't imagine it getting much more accurate. It will put 17 rounds into half dollar sized hole at 25 feet. I am running an APEX DAEK and RAM in mine. If you still have the stock trigger in your M&P, you might be better off going with an APEX kit or having a trigger job. That will improve your accuracy with the pistol as well. Keep your M&P and wait for APEX and their new Barsto barrel they are working up. TXPO

And at 25 yds? I can throw rocks through the same hole at 25'.

I had both a M&P 45 Fullsize, and an M&P Pro 9mm. Unfortunately, both of them were stolen a little over a month ago, but that's a different story.

The .45 shot rings around the Pro 9. I mean, it was WAY more accurate. No matter which loads I tried, handloads or factory, different bullet weights, shapes, etc, I just could not get the Pro 9 to group all that well. The .45 was just extremely accurate, keeping all shots inside 2" at 25 yards with my handloads (off sandbags). At 15 yards offhand I could hold a ragged hole on target. Just couldn't do that with the Pro no matter what I did.

Granted, I may have had a lemon, but I've heard other people having less than stellar accuracy out of the 9mm guns.
