I've put about 500 rounds through my 45 and the trigger is still unsatisfactory. I'm confused as to what alterations/kits are available, most I read about are for 9 & 40. Is there a company that has a kit for the 45 and do they install it in a timely manner. I'm not very confident I can do it myself. Thankyou for any advice.

I have the 45c and I feel your pain. Get an apex kit. Best addition you can make. Haven't received mine for the 45c in the mail yet but I've installed them in others and the difference is astounding.

Call up s&w and tell them your trigger is not right. They'll take it for 4 weeks (just a guess, I don't know the current wait) and they'll polish your trigger up for you for free. With the winter coming up it may be the perfect time.

Nick,

Do a Google search on "The Brush Creek Ltd" the owner and gunsmith Joe Leinenger has done 3 M&P action jobs for me, a 9mm Pro, a .45 Full Size and a .40c. All the actions are excellent. He offers to level of action work, competition and concealed carry, I have both.

It depends what you are looking for. I have FS 9, FS 40, and compact 40 that all have good 6.5 pounds triggers out of the box. I have had two 45 compact with awful triggers. My last one I sent off for trigger job, came back with a smooth 4 pound trigger. It was too light for a off duty carry. I tried Apex, again, not hard to install, but made trigger smooth an very light. You can send to performance center for duty action job, express service is one week. I had one done to a 4014, amazing! I got rid of both 45 compacts, striking to my 4506-1.

I did the DIY trigger job on my 45c and love it

It took me 45 mins

I simply replaced the sear it self with the Apex hard sear for my M&P45c and it made a very noticeable improvement in both the trigger pull and reset.

Is sw gonna fix the trigger problem? Why buy a gun u have to have a trigger job on? I have a shield and love it and the trigger wonder if this is something there gonna change or if its just a rumor??

What do you mean by unsatisfactory?

It's long, it's gritty and inconsistent. I don't mind long if it breaks clean, Gritty sucks I get a false sense of when it breaks. Heavy isnt bad if the trigger is consistent and breaks clean, Take up is forever, I'm getting used to it but it affects accuracy, I can shoot my 40 shield more accurately in spite of a shorter sight radius because the trigger is better.

If you do nothing but shoot it and dry fire it, it will smooth out
Some

This is why Glock is so popular. I'm a Smith guy, but I own 2 Glocks, a 20 and 21. They come with pretty good triggers right out of the box. I ordered a $25 trigger kit for each and now have a 3.5lb and a 4.5lb, short reset trigger for each.

You have to spend $80 to $160 on an Apex kit to get a comparable trigger? What a joke. M&P stock triggers are an embarrassment to S&W, or at least, they should be.

You need to shoot it more,LOTS more. Ever try buffing and smoothing out some of the parts ? It's the FIRST thing I do to ANY weapon I buy, inspect, clean and touch up any rough spots and then break it in fairly easy letting the barrel temper slowly. I never "smoke" a new gun shooting "Master Blaster" style. ALL of mine are tack drivers WITH-OUT ANY added new parts being added. You need to shoot the daylights outa it and the see how well you like it. My FS 45 will shoot cyrcles around my old Colt 45.

Supposedly the new m&ps are now being shipped with the new triggersnthat are on the shield

I dunno if I want a 3.5 lb trigger while I'm sitting, standing, bending, etc. with it shoved into an IWB next to my tush!

Maybe it's because I'm primarily a revolver guy but the take up and reset seem fine to me.

I don't understand all the fuss over "reset" either, it must be a Glock thing. Reset on my revolvers is to fully release the trigger. No uber tuned Glock or plastic M&P can rival the feel of a 50 year old steel M&P in single action. You can tune a 1911 to come darn close. I remember my first Glock experience and if I recall my thoughts on the trigger were it was the absolutely worst trigger I had ever felt, my old Mosin and Mausers were better. I did the trigger job on my M&P to bring the pull weight down to 4lbs not for takeup or reset. It will never be a target pistol, it does not need a target trigger.
