M&P 9 Shield or Ruger LC9

On another thread I saw a reference to a "counter-jockey". I thought it amusing until I stopped in my local Academy to check on Shield or LC9 availability. There, a most helpful young feller told me, "I'd go with the LC9 over the Shield due to the long trigger pull on the Shield". Now, I could be wrong, but all my research suggests the exact opposite. The Shield only has a 6.5 lb trigger and reportedly is crisper than the LC9. I guess the lesson to be learned here is take what you hear in a shop like that with a grain of salt and do your research.

i have an LC380 with lasermac trigger guard laser. love it. its my BUG to go along with my SD40VE. no issues whatsever. love my ruger lc380

From the two guns you mentioned I believe the Shield is the better pistol. That being said I was in the same place you are right now and then I discovered the Taurus PT111 Millennium G2. I know this is an S&W Forum but for me it finally came down to the Shield & the Millennium G2. I have a 1000 rounds through the G2 and it's excellent. It eats anything I feed it. It conceals easily and has 12 rounds if you need them. The grip is the best I've tried. For me reliability and how a gun feels in my hand are what's important. Taurus hit a home run with the G2. I think it's worth looking at before you make a decision. IMHO.

Thanks. I'll take a look at it. What I read online about it is a 50/50 split. The extra rounds would be nice though it seems to be a tad wider than the Shield.

Your right. The frame width on the Shield is 0.95" & on the G2 it's
0.97" If you have the opportunity shoot both guns and compare them side by side. That's what helped me make my decision. Add in the extra fire power and double strike capability and it was a slam dunk. I do believe that the Shield is far better than the Ruger. I didn't like the way the Ruger shot compared to the Shield or the G2. Good Luck !!!

I love Rugers- but here is why I sold my LC9 and got a Shield9: The LC9 has a carbon steel slide which started rusting.
Carbon steel magazines.
Carbon steel barrel.
Loaded chamber indicator.
Magazine disconnect.
The Shield has a stainless slide, stainless barrel, and stainless magazines. I don't understand why Ruger would make small, concealable guns out of regular steel, when they would probably be exposed to perspiration and moisture.
I think the Shield is a more "refined" handgun.
