How good is
"Winchester® Ranger® Bonded 9mm Luger 147 Grain JHP"
for regular M&P 9 ?

Also, is there some 101 source of basic info about ammunition marking?
There are some confusing references, I've seen number of "grain" was used for both - weight of the bullet or weight of the load.

it's the weight of the projectile. Most commercial ammo doesn't give you the propellant amount or type on the box. You would have to contact the maker. You'll get as many opinions as there are types of ammo, but the Ranger ammo is decent stuff. I don't own an M&P 9, but I would imagine you can shoot any standard pressure ammo in the gun, probably +P as well, but be very wary of +P+ because the specs are unknown in some cases. Knowledgeable owners will chime in, I'm sure. I have several 9mm pistols, and shoot only standard velocity ammo. My favorite S/D load is the federal Hi Shok 115gr HP (code 9BP). It's an older designer, but it feeds reliably and gives plenty of punch. It's also not as expensive as the newer stuff. At one time it was a standard police load. Sometimes it's hard to find. Hitting what you're aiming at is more important than the type of ammunition you use. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.
As you mentioned about Hi-Shock, the most of the handgun ammo is hard to find these days, especially high quality HP.
I was able to order Ranger 147 for a decent price and trying to figure out if I made mistake or not :)
I am aware about +P+ (enough to avoid them), but since it was not mentioned by seller, I assume these are standard.
