Hey guys

I field stripped my 9 today after range use and did a test dry after all together. Have rarely done dry fires so couldn't recall sound/feel. It was very light sounding, almost a springy sound, normal?

Thanks, John

If it goes click then it's fine...I'm sure it's fine..

First, make sure there is NO ammo near you.
Next, rack the slide so its able to be dry fired.
Put a pencil, eraser end first, down the barrel.
Pull the trigger with the gun pointed up.
If the pencil moves, your striker is fine.

Thanks guys, just wanted to check (like the pencil idea)

I cleaned my 1911 first and after listening to that dry fire, with its hammer and all, my M&P sound caught me off guard....

Just the nature of the beast. Mine does it to. As long as I hear a click Im good to go.

With mine I have a mag safety so it won't dry fire unless I insert an [empty] magazine.

Just food for thought.

When I dry fire my issued Glock 21, there is a click and a twangy? sound...makes it sound almost toy-like while my 9c has a solid click without the toyish twang

Yeah Don my toy guns used to do that twang thing also...lol

yeah toy gun sound, that describes it...
Pencil test worked great!

Thanks, John

Ehh its the nature of Glocks (alot of striker fired guns for that matter). Same deal with my G23

That springy sound concerned me too. Now I hardly notice it. Love the gun as my EDC. I have actually played tennis a couple games into a set wearing it before I felt the darn thing!

About the only time you have to get concerned about the sound on dry fire is when you hear a BANG. :)

Yep, the springy sound is normal when dry firing with an empty barrel.

I recently started using Tipton Snap Caps for dry firing, and I get a nice crisp click dry firing with snap caps instead the harsh springy sound I got dry firing on an empty chamber.

The snap caps are worth it just to get the nice click with the dry fire.
