Bought a new M&P 9mm last week and had several FTE's. Out of a little under 50 rounds I had several. I used several different brands of factory ammo and still no luck. Thought they had this was fixed, but this gun is new stock from S&W. Who else has had FTE's from M&P's?

Called S&W and the rep said they sold to numerous law enforcement and he never heard of this happening, and they had no problems with these guns. I then mentioned the L.A. Sherrif's dept, he then said it was an isolated batch, HUH, never heard of it, now its isolated? He then asked for my info and e-mailed a shipping label. Is this an on-going issue, or not?

I have numerous 3rd Gen smith's that have been exceptional performers and never had trouble with them from day one. Also have a SW99 40cal thats been great as well as a SWVE 40 that for the money, performance has been remarkable.

I have an M&P9 with about 700 rounds through it. There certainly is a break-in period with this gun. In my first 200 or so rounds, I had 4 or 5 FTF/FTE issues. In the next 250 rounds, I had 2 to 3 FTF/FTE issues. I've had one FTF over the next 250 and that was after shooting ~225 rounds, so my hands were pretty tired, so I was limp wristing the gun a bit. Give it some time.

Failure to extract or failure to eject? I have had both with new M&Ps.

My experience with Smith is that they have the best customer service you can ask for. In my cases, they emailed me a prepaid shipping label and returned the guns in about seven working days.

That said, one has to wonder why extraction and ejection problems still exist in an otherwise great pistol.

Remember, the guy on the phone is likely not going to tell you that you have a common problem. I would just get the return process going and get it fixed. I have had ZERO problems with mine after their repair.

I have read on a different forum that S&W will polish the ramp and the chamber when it is sent in for a failure to eject problem. And in most cases that fixes the problem. And I have heard of one M&P that came new from S&W with a polished ramp and chamber.

Send it back and hopefully it will come back fixed

This has been on here several times and I had the same problems the first 100 rounds or so. Give it some time and a few more rounds and the problem should go away. My 3rd generation didn't have that problem but for some reason, some of the M&P's take some breaking in. If it hasn't been cured after a few more rounds then send it back.
