I went to the gunshow here in AZ and bought four 17 round Pro-Mag magazines for my M&P 9mm pistol. I went to the range this week to use them for the first time. I loaded the mags and went to use them. I proceeded to aim down range and as soon as I pressed the trigger, instead of firing, all the bullets proceeded to fly out of the bottom, spring and all. The same thing happened to each Pro-Mag magazine that I purchased. I reached out to Pro-Mag online, and after several emails of which I have not received any contact. They have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Do not ever buy Pro-Mags ever again! I'll stick with Smith & Wesson!

I think most people on this forum realize that, but thanks for the thought. I call Pro Mags by their real name - targets;)

Pro Mags certainly have gotten mixed reviews. Right now I suspect you can find OEM mags just as cheap or cheaper than Pro Mags.

Yes most Promags are junk. Although I have seen some that work well.
I find it interesting that the Promags have such a poor reputation with the M&P. For the Mini-14 they are considered one of the best.

Still, I see no reason to buy aftermarket mags when the factory mags work so well.

Thanks for the report. This is not the first time I've heard of this failure with Promags.

So, not even the round that you chambered, fired?

Course not! The part that is missing from the first post is the "AW HELL NAW!" from the M&P, as it un-chambered the round back into the magazine before it (the magazine) crapped its pants. :)

I heard that if you loaded only 7-8 rounds they will hold up fine (which is pointless), however the spring messes up once you start loading it full.

OEM or bust imo

Not good to hear at all. This is the first I've heard of ProMags being that bad. I'd wait for the gun show to come back and go have a talk with that vendor. Good luck in getting a positive resolution from ProMag, if they get back to you.

LOL, that's what I was thinking! Hey, he's the one who said he pressed the trigger and instead of firing, all of the bullets fell out the bottom. :p

Practice mags are one thing - if they work. On the other hand, the situation described is intolerable.

I have always followed the advice that you should always use factory mags with any brand of pistol, with the following exceptions:

1911s - Wilson, McCormick, Metalform
MecGar - for any pistol for which they make magazines (they make OEM mags for many manufacturers)
ACTMag - for SIG 220 ONLY
MDS - Beretta M9/92F (MDS makes Beretta OEM magazines and Beretta owns MDS)

I don't think so. I haven't seen a 17rd 9mm in stock in a LGS in ages. Saw one vendor at a recent gun show, he wanted $50 for the S&W brand, $35 for Promag.

Last time I bought factory 17rd mags I paid $30, so I passed on both even though it's highly unlikely I'll see factory mags at $30 ever again I can do better than $50.

Promag does ok for some models, their mags are a close second to factory mags for the 15-22. But I wouldn't use them for the M&P pistols.

When magazines was hard to find I bought several and they worked great. I could not tell the difference from the OEM until I looked at them. Jim

Yep tried Pro Mags years ago, lured by their cheap price. Mistake!

Always pay extra for quality! SW mags.. or MecGar great stuff.

Magazines too important to skimp on!

Greenietaz,

Always stick to the factory or MecGar magazines for any firearm. For 1911 go with the Wilson.
Pro Mag which you now no has the same type of customer as the product.

THE ROLLING STONES

Unless you are just looking to HATE Pro Mag, there is no way you can believe this post.

as soon as I pressed the trigger, instead of firing, all the bullets proceeded to fly out of the bottom, spring and all.

Come on, he pressed the trigger and the magazine disassembled. You really believe that statement?

And as stated above, even if the magazine's floor-plate was defective and let loose at the exact second he pulled the trigger, the round in the chamber did not fire either?

Then the three remaining magazines had the exact same floor-plate failure at the exact same moment of pulling the trigger and the pistol refused to fire the round in the chamber 3 more times.

Pro Mag may not be the #1 manufacturer out there, but I have got to call BS on this post

My ATI 1911 came with ACT mags which have been perfect so far.
Better than the soft ejector that came with the gun.
In fact, they look identical to the Mec-Gar 1911 mag, except for the size of the witness holes and the size of the number stamping.

I have 3 Pro Mags and all three work. 2 work perfectly the third will lock the slide back with 1 round left in the mag. I do carry the S&W for EDC, but the Pro Mags work OK.
