I would like to have the thumb safety on my m&p 9mm removed. Would this affect the function of the gun?

So we are all thinking on the same page what model of M&P are you considering removing the thumb safety?

If the weapon is the Shield I watched a youtube video of a person doing the surgery and the Shield survived.

Would I take on such a project with my skill level. No.

Good luck

The m&p 9mm full size. I know that it is not so hard to take the safety switch out of the weapon but don't know if it would affect the function in some way.

I would post your question on "S&W Smithing" section of this gun forum.

Yes you can remove the safety without effecting to functionality of the gun. There are several YouTube videos and guides online. Just remember you will have small holes in your gun.

You can remove it with your fingers in about 5 minutes. It won't affect the function of the pistol, but it will leave two holes in the frame where the safety levers emerge. You can fill those with plugs available from Smith.

I removed mine and have had no problems whatsoever. Well actually the guy at my LGS removed it for me.

Thanks for the info, it helped me. I have had it out before but always put it back in not shure if it would cause the gun to malfunction.
