I'm going to buy a full size M&P, and am wondering if any of you owners have experienced any difference in reliability between the 9mm and the .40. Any tips will be appreciated
I look at it this way, I have the M&P 40 FS one of the LEO SKU's, if you are going with a full size pistol go with the largest or close to largest caliber you can. I personally like the .40, some do and some don't.
I have the 9mm in the full size 4.25 pro series with night sights and a better trigger and couldn't be happier. I did a lot of research with 9mm before I went to buy one and the price is cheaper per round so if you're using it as your primary range gun then you need to consider that 9mm is roughly 5 dollars cheaper per 100. Also, depending on the type of bullet you can get ballistics tests to match or very closely match a .40.
What is the purpose of the gun. Plinking, target, self defense protection? Is recoil/flip part of the decision? Much easier to advise if we know the primary purpose/use for the gun.
I purchased a 40c about a year ago. I also picked up a factory S&W 9mm barrel and a few 9mm magazines. Ended up with the best of both worlds. It works just fine with the 9mm parts.
I have shot enough of both calibers through the 40c I no longer feel much of a difference between them. Accuracy and follow up shots are pretty much the same. This is my favorite M&P.
The 40c and full size 40 will also accept the .357 Sig barrel as well.
