I opted for the M&P 9mm with the 1911 thumb style safety but now after some use, I just find it gets in the way, I know I can remove it (seen a YouTube video on it) but I was wondering if this would void the warranty and also am a bit worried about dirt getting in the open spaces that would now be there, has any one done this, or know if it would void the warranty or if its just a stupid idea all together? Thanks!

Remove the safety-use a plug to cover the hole. In case of warranty work, put the safety back in before you send it to S&W.

Another option is to just train with the equipment configuration you have. As a long time 1911 shooter, I almost can't draw an M&P with a manual safety without disengaging it due to my firing grip. You could be the same if you used a thumbs forward grip and did a bit of dry fire to build muscle memory.

As a recommendation, the M&P22 is also good for live fire training (has thumb safety). It is also a hoot. :)

Thanks, I am getting more used to it as time goes by I guess I will have to wager the pros and cons, also do you know where I would buy a "plug" or would it just be a diy thing.
