I’ve had my BG for a couple of years now. Been reliable in the 300-400 rounds I fired through it. The magazine always got hung up putting the mag in. I used to have to press the mag release to get it past the point when it got hung up, but it worked fine.

I decided to send it in to have the plastic mag catch replaced with the metal one that supposedly fixed the hang up problem on insertion. Got it back the other day. Nothing listed as to what they did but the mag does slide in without an issue.

Took it shooting yesterday. First light strike ever but it was one of my reloads so I guess it could have been my fault. But two separate times, the mag partially ejected during firing. My middle finger probably bumped the mag catch during firing. Not a lot of room in that grip for my fingers but if I make a conscious effort to avoid the catch with my middle finger it stays in.

So I know Galloway and others make parts for the .380. Anybody have any luck with an aftermarket mag button? Something a bit more rigid that requires more of an effort to press? I think I recall on here some having issues where it would drop the mag by just shaking it, but since is a pocket gun I don’t want it popping out when it shouldn’t.

The crew at Galloway will fix your issue. They have the modified part you need. I have a family member who had the same issue and have started to see issues with my BG as well. Galloway is closed until further notice with the current virus situation. Send them and email and they will work out the details on getting you running again.

I saw they have a new mag release but they reference it as being an improvement over the plastic one. I had the plastic swapped out for the new factory metal one. Is the Galloway Metal one an improvement over the factory metal one?

Yes it’s an improvement from what you got back from S&W. You will have to push the Mag release in when inserting a new mag as their new machined part requires it.

You won’t be disappointed at all with this upgrade. I’m going to drop mine off when they are open again.

I traded in my 2012 Bodyguard with plastic mag release and got a new 2018 one with the improved metal release, better grip stippling, and a smoother trigger. I needed to upgrade......but if your's is a "keeper", then I would get the Galloway parts. Metal is Better!

I wore out two plastic mag releases so SMITH sent me a steel one so off to my gunsmith I went.He found a cracked sear sooooo he sent it to S&W they have had my gun for over 10 weeks so I can't report on the new release... But folks TEN weeks ***

I got the Galloway part and had my gunsmith install it. The new factory part is metal too but Galloway says their part is different. It does feel more solid. Gotta load up some .380 to test it out. I’m loading .223 now so it will have to wait a week or 2.
