I just had to sell my Buckmark after having it for over 18 years - the slide became too difficult to rack (I'm a geezer ... :( ). I have been researching the M&P .22 Compact and it sounds pretty good. I have concerns, though, about the aluminum slide.

Has anyone noticed any looseness or excessive wear on their slides? Maybe I'm just a worry-wart, but it seems like the steel inserts in the frame might cause the slide rails to wear and loosen up over time? Also, I see that S&W has inserted a steel rod for the slide lock/latch to hit when it locks back - has anyone seen any peening or excessive wear there?

The reason I ask these (seemingly dumb) questions is I will be shooting it at least twice a month - and .22 ammo has loosened up to the point where I could be putting several hundred rounds per month through it. Thanks in advance!

Edited to add: I just read the post about the rough barrel - needless to say I will be checking the barrel before I buy!!

Several hundred a month is nothing to worry about.

Moving from a Buckmark, though, don't expect the same kind of accuracy. It's more of a 22lr 'trainer' gun than a target gun.

I have no hands on experience with the new S&W "Victory" concoction but maybe that's worth checking out in terms of ease of slide racking.

I have a full size M&P 22. I have shot some ware Between 4- 5000 rounds through it. Only wear I have to deal with is a new fireing pin spring.

Look into the Victory 22, it's a heck of a gun. I love mine, not difficult to rack and runs like a champ.

I only recently got my M&P .22 Compact and have not kept a round count, but I shoot it pretty often (200 + rounds per outing). So far no problems, it's one of my favorite range guns but as others have said don't expect pin point accuracy.

I've had my M & P 22c for over a year now. I would estimate that I have close to 20,000 rounds through it now and I see no excessive wear, and the slide has not become loose. I got my wife in shooting about 3 three months ago and we now shoot twice a week at least 300-325 rounds per outing. It's a great gun and shoots anything I put though it. Also it's easy to break down and a snap to clean.

I've had my compact for a couple months, about 500 rounds now thru it. No issues, and (surprisingly to me anyway) not a single ammo issue. Not one.
I also have a Buckmark, though easy to compare the 2 i try not to. My particular BM with its wood grips feels perfect in the hand and even for my skills is more accurate than the compact. But it can be finicky on some ammo brands and doesnt break down as easily as the compact for cleaning. I love shooting it, especially if i'm "trying" for some accuracy on the targets.
The compact feels good in the hand, just like my MP 9's do. While it isnt quite as accurate as the BM I've found it to be just fine for my shooting needs. I picked it up for another range toy, and for that it is perfect. It eats ammo, is fun to shoot, and is easy to clean up when done. So for play time it cant be beat.
