I just bought an M&P CORE 40L and put a Trijicon RMR RM06 red dot on it. I am in love!! Everything has been great except for one thing. If the slide is open and I insert a loaded magazine, sometimes the slide will close automatically. If I GENTLY push the magazine in the gun while the slide is open, the slide will stay open as it is supposed to. If I put the magazine in the gun (while slide is open) with any force or speed, the slide closes. I am NOT pushing the slide release when the malfunction occurs. Are CORE's supposed to do this? What should I do to fix it? I really don't want to send it back to S&W for something this simple and be without my now favorite gun. Anyway this is my first post and I really appreciate the wealth of info. available on this site. Any help is much appreciated.

No worries.. It's a polymer gun thing. Not every gun does it, but a lot do. Both of my Steyrs did it. I asked about it and lots of people said their guns did it too. As long as your finger is not in the trigger guard when you are loading, then you are golden.

I have the 40L too and plan on going to the range tomorrow. I will see if I can replicate your issue. So far, I have only put 700 rounds through it.

How many have you sent through yours?

I will report back soon enough.

I just have 200 rounds through it. I love everything about the gun except for this. I know it's not really an issue or hindrance but I'm OCD and it just bugs me. If this is the only "problem" I have with the gun, I will be more than happy. Having a red dot on a pistol is bad ***.

Question: What would you do other than release the slide when you insert a magazine? To me the next step after inserting a mag is always to have the slide move forward into battery ready to shoot. I prefer having the slide move with mag insertion. I just wish I could do it 100% of the time. (I'm working on it, I'm at about 95% now, I know it's technique but I haven't trained myself enough. I've only got 35K rounds through my current comp gun;))

Absolutely!

My .40S&W does this 100% of the time. I've got a pretty consistent mag insertion technique. Index mag, put flat to flat, insert in one smooth, firm motion. My only beef with the slide going forward on mag insertion is that it spoils me and may be making my 1911 reloads slower.;)

My 40 Pro slide "auto releases" also when the magazine is seated firmly. I think of it as a feature, not a bug.

After sending 200 rounds down rage yesterday, I did not have the issue you speak of. However, after cleaning her up I decided to work with it a bit to see if I could experience the auto release issue.

If I slammed the clip in, I could get the gun to do what you described. (Not all of the time but often enough I will be inserting my clips more carefully.) It never happened during a slower feed of the clip.

Thanks for brining this to my attention, now I can pass this off to folks who shoot my gun and other new owners of this model.
