M&P CORE 9 without optics?

Hello,
I am trying to decide between buying an M&P 9 Pro CORE and a regular M&P 9 Pro. I do not plan on putting any optics on in the near future, but I am interesting in competition shooting. I guess what I am asking is, is it worth it to buy the M&P 9 Pro CORE if I do not plan on putting any optics on the gun? My concern is that the high sights might be a problem without any optics. I don't really want to buy the CORE and then have to switch the sights right away. Also, are there any internal differences between the regular Pro series and the Pro CORE?

Any help is appreciated!

I don't think the sights would make much difference on a range gun, they might be of concern if used for concealed carry. I don't have a need for the CORE model myself, can't use optics in IDPA, throws you into open class in USPSA/IPSC with the comped 24rd .38Supers.

We had Dawson Precision make sights for our CORE. They did a great job. Did this because not ready to add optics.

I use the stock sights on my CORE when I use it to shoot IDPA ESP, I actually prefer them over the stock sights on my 4.25" FS. I also use a reflex sight in steel challenge and the occasional USPSA match. Sure I have to run in the open class but I can't physically run from position to position like the young bucks so it really doesn't matter which class I shoot in. (I do it for the fun). Like I've advised before, if you think you even have the smallest interest in mounting an optic, get the Core. It shoots great with iron sights and as you get older, the option of an optic seems to be more appealing.

If you plan on using a CORE for USPSA, it is not on the approved production pistol list, so its only good for Ltd (without Optic) or Open (with). John Amidon (NROI) says he is working with S&W to get it approved, but no go for now.

I had been using mine (9L Core) for a while until I got called on it, so I bought and built a 40L Pro and customized it.

In December, I found a 9L slide for sale, so I got it so I can go back to Production if I want.

I prefer the sights on the M&P Pro 5" for Production, but the CORE models are perfectly legal.
Unless you have a strong preference, the brutal truth is that the minor differences in the gun are not all that critical if you're shooting the lower classes, especially club matches.
If you're on the super squad at a sectional of higher, then definitely shoot the optimum, because a single extra mike can move you down 2 places.

I ended up converting my CORE into an OPEN pistol for USPSA. Think I'll switch the JPoint for a Deltapoint II once they actually start shipping.

The others are for Limited (40), and Production, using Williams Adjustable sights (FO front and back). Shield 9 is the carry, with TFO sights.
