Hello all,
I have a new M&P 9mm that seems to eject shells on top of my head or in my face. I have 3 other M&P's that do not have this issue. I seem to remember reading about this before. Has anyone else had this problem? What was the corrective action?
Thanks for your help.

Mine did that when I first got it. After about 100 rounds or so it stopped doing it. Others have sent theirs back to S&W and they replaced the slides.

Mine also did that when I first got it. It took a couple hundred rounds before it stopped doing it. Haven't had any issues in the 2 years since.

Your extractor does not have enough tension.
There are 2 possible causes:
1 a bad spring
2 an improperly adjusted extractor

If you have an improperly adjusted extractor, there are 2 ways to fix this:

1: send it back to S&W
2: adjust the extractor: there is a small extractor adjusting pad on the inside surface of the extractor between the hook and the extractor pin hole. if you remove a small amount of the metal at that spot, it will make the resting position of the extractor closer to the centerline of the chamber and increase tension.

Thanks all for your help. I have already put 200 rounds through the pistol. Guess I'll try a few hundred more and go from there

I had the same problem with the casing ejecting at my face, plus the follower jamming in the magazine. I filed the square edge of the follower with a metal file, just enough to make it rounded and the casings now eject correctly No more in my face!!!
