There are a number of people who have sent their Glocks to a company (whose name I cannot recall at the moment - senior moment today, I guess) to have the grip size reduced, stippled, and/or other frame modifications. Now, the M&P grip suits me just fine...but, and this is just my personal opinion, I don't like the polymer rail on the M&P (and I don't use it.) I was thinking of sending it to this company and having the rail removed, or sanded down until it is flush, or whatever...and wondered if anyone else had ever done this.

I realize that many people like and want the rail, and removing it would pretty much preclude it from being resold to a large group of buyers, or at least it would take a hit on value...but if I had it done, I would plan on keeping it anyway, and I was thinking about having it done to my M&P9c, which I use as a CCW pistol and don't hang lights and lasers on it.

Thoughts, anyone?

I'd worry less about the reduction in resale value than the fact that it will no longer fit properly into any holster designed for that model.

You should also realize that the rail adds structural rigidity to the dust cover area of the frame. I'm not sure what might happen should you rasp/grind/sand the thing off. I am sure that S&W will charge you about $200 to replace your frame should it prove to be a problem.

That's certainly a consideration...the structural component...I was thinking of only removing the amount of material until it was even with the cutouts (if you can visualize what I mean.)

However, what your comment made me realize is that so doing may very well invalidate my warranty, which I definitely don't want to do...so I won't be doing it.

It this what you were thinking of: Boresight Solutions, LLC

Ben has done two M&Ps for me. Excellent work. I think he has removed rails on Glocks.
