While at my LGS this morning, they told me their S&W representative was in the other day and mentioned that an M&P Gen2 would be announced soon, but gave no other details. Has anyone else heard of this?

Interdasting.

Wonder what modifications / enhancements they'll make to the next generation.

Are you sure they weren't talking to their Glock rep?, S&W doesn't have "generations".

They have generations they just don't really use that term. They just change the model names. lol.

Just bring back the old favorites like 3913, 19s, and CS Series!! Only Dreamin. Hold onto those badboys. Love to see what prices on em will be in another few years.

I just got off the phone with S&W (had to order a part) and I asked about the Gen 2 rumor, he replied saying he heard the same thing, but he would give any details. He said look for them around the end of the year, or by the time the Shot Show starts.

This reminds me of when I bought my x-box 360 & 3 months later x-box 1 came out!!! So if I was looking to buy a shield 9mm now, I should probably wait a few months for the new & improved one to come out??

The most important issue is that magazines be made interchangeable. Without that, any Gen 2 is a non-starter.

People are getting tired (and poor) from having to buy a bunch of extra spare high caps "just in case." Naturally, it is of no concern to LE agencies, who trade guns more often these days than some people trade cars, but it is of concern to regular people who buy their own guns and magazines.

At least Glock has made sure that its mags work in each generation of pistol (for the most part).

Is this a common practice in the industry to not supply parts to a discontinued model. Hate to sound ignorant and am not a marketer but does not sound like good PR to me.

I bought a new MacBook Air a few years ago. The following week Apple came out with a brand-new version. They allowed me to exchange mine for the new one at no charge. I'm sure S&W will allow you to do the same.

Hopefully a good trigger and a combat accurate 9mm are in the cards for Gen 2.

On a non-sarcastic point, I wonder if this is the fruits of the "General Dynamics" partnership we're seeing.

Tactile reset, smoother firing pin block, trigger return spring that doesn't rely on a cottonball, and more aggressive stippling on front/back strap.
Those would be some good upgrades.

great! probably another great gun that wont be legal in California:mad:

If there is a Gen2 it almost certainly is as this gun will be competing to replace .mil pistols.

So all those "Gen 1-3" S&W guns are just a myth? Guns like the Gen 1 39, the Gen 2 645 and the Gen 3 4506 are just fantasy? They didn't exist and no one used that term? Hmmm, and all this time I thought they were real.;)

I bought Adobe PSE 12 just two months before PSE 13 came out. When I asked about just getting a discount for the upgrade they told me to get bent (yes their language was very unprofessional). So, don't count on any sympathy from any company when they change their models.

Even with all that, S&W would be stupid to change the M&P now. It's probably the best selling handgun in the last 4 years. Why change a run away success? Sure, they'll make small upgrades, but they're not changing anything on a dramatic scale.

This is all speculation on my part. I have no idea what S&W is up to nor do I care. I won't be able to buy any new S&W guns anyway.

I think I should have said M&P generations, not S&W. I don't recall any references to the term when talking about the M&P (the plastic ones, not the steel revolvers);)

I agree. Reports of a requirement of 4" groups at 50 yards for the Army's MHS may force S&W to finally address the persistent FS9 accuracy problems.

The Test guns are due to Aberdeen end of January, so the timing mentioned (SHOT) makes sense.

Some idea of what a militarized M&P might look like could be had by referring to the Beretta M9A3.

I'd like to see redesigned grip inserts. A large insert without the abnormal palm swell would be nice.

Yes, I talked to them. The rumors are true and they said the next generation will be all 9's since other calibers are dead.

The slide will read "2nd Generation" and the trigger will be colored silver instead of black. Also the magazine followers will be orange.
Apparently the sales of the M&P's have plateaued and they need a boost from sales to all the Generation 1 owners.

I took my cynical pill a bit early today ;)

Yup, rumors started around July 5th
Of what year?

I've read posts talking about 2nd Generation M&P's going back as far as 2012.

Is something actually happening or is this just more wishful thinking. ;)

I'm wondering if they are making a modular version to keep pace with the Sig P320 series... only because there isn't too much to improve on the current M&P's.

My guess is that they will consolidate all the calibers into the 45c size frame. Just a guess, but it would make sense, since this is the most shootable frame they make.

You heard it here first. What do I win?
