While shooting one of my old k frames, I noticed that the cocking effort seemed extreme and the trigger pull was also very stiff.Yesteday, with grips and sideplate removed,I noticed an oddity;the mainspring has an acute bend that brings it almost in contact with the backstrap with the hammer down.At the front strap, the strain screw doesn't touch the spring. The spring itself is both thinner and longer than those on other guns of the same era.I guess a long action k frame spring is needed.I am assuming that the spring for the later short action would be different.

I don't know, without checking my guns, if the post-WW2 vs pre-WW2 springs
are the same, or different. I do think that you have the wrong spring in that
gun. I'll be back to the guns in a couple of weeks or so. If you haven't
located another spring, I have several.

As long as your K frame is a later 1905 type with coil trigger return spring (and not the stacked double leaf springs like the 1899 and 1902s, then it should use the same mainspring as any other standard KLN frame from then 'till pre-mim modern day. I've installed new aftermarket power rib mainsprings in WW1 vintage Smiths. It took very little fitting with a file to take a bit off the ends of the forks that hook on the hammer sturup.
