One of these is going to be my next pistol. The question is,which one? I don't own any Glocks but do own 2 Sigmas.I've been doing alot of reading on both and have rented some at the range to shoot.I like the feel of the M&P over the Glock, more so over the Gen 4.The Glock wins me over in trigger pull over the M&P,but not by much.I've shot both 9mm and .40 caliber and like both. The Glock gets my vote when it comes to price, about $50 cheaper then the M&P,but can be overlooked if quality and service are better with the S&W.If you were to be a first owner of one of these, which would "you" choose, and why?

I never made friends with the "Luger" grip angle on the Glock, and always tended to shoot high on an instinct shot.
The S&W pistols pretty much solved my problem with grip angle.

When all I had was Sigmas, I said I wished for a Sigma with a G34 trigger, since a Sigma handles better than a Glock.

Now I have an M&P 9 Pro 5" which fills the bill for me.

That would depend on where you are shopping. New M&P's with 3 mags can be had for $398. In fact, they might be running a military rebate program right now where you get a $50 rebate.

Wow,that's a great deal! I'm not in the service now;does that matter on the rebate?I already know S&Ws customer service reputation, which is excellent, but how is Glocks? I'm thinking that will be my determining point along with which feels better in my hand.

I did a more thorough search and found a local gun shop that sells both M&P and Glock for $499 plus tax......but,the M&P comes with 3 mags.

Go online to Express Police Supply. $398 with free shipping and 3 mags. I didn't get one during a military discount but my brother did... And he is active reserve right now, or he was anyway when he got back from Iraq.

You will qualify for 'First Responder' pricing at $398. Last I checked they had the 9c with night sights ($455) in stock for immediate shipping. I ordered one of those and had it in a couple days.

Buy what you want and what feels best to you...don't worry about a difference in price as the deciding factor, because that won't matter after a month or two. Having a gun that fits your hand and that has the features you like will matter as long as you own the gun.

I have owned several Glocks, they are reliable, and they do have some advantages...simple design, very easy to detail strip, and you can find parts for them virtually anywhere. They only have a one year warranty, but many people say that Glock has taken care of issues long after the warranty period. I don't own any Glocks now, as much as I have tried to like them, because they just don't fit my hand comfortably...I have small hands. The M&Ps do fit well, with the adjustable back straps. Plus, S&W has great customer service. Magazines for M&Ps are more expensive, and can be harder to find. (Of course, they are not nearly as expensive as magazines for my H&K!!!!)

There's no wrong answer, really doesn't make much difference as you'll probably buy the other in time anyhow if you continue shooting. As far as customer service goes it's very unlikely you'll ever need it for either.

All things equal, I would and do choose Glock. The grip and adjustable backstraps on the M&P make it a tough choice though. I do use my M&P with new shooters more than other guns.

Both are reliable and shoot well. I do see more and more M&P's in IDPA matches these days.

You will not make a bad choice with either.

Ok,I went to the website and saw the deal you said. That is a great deal.I tried to look up Glock prices but either they don't sell them or my pc was acting up to where they would not display. This is just a minor thing but do the M&Ps come shipped in that cheesy cardboard box or a nice plastic case like the Glocks do?

In the past year or more, Glocks customer service dept and warranty dept have been quite busy with the gen 4 rsa problems and the bad extractor problems with the gen 4 and late gen 3's.

That said, both are fine weapons.

You can get Glocks I think... I know they sell used ones.

The M&P's come in a nice plastic case. Same as everywhere else. With a lock, book, three mags, fired shell, and a fine weapon.

Common knowledge and the Smiths have had their problems but the vast majority that you don't hear about have been fine.

Every once in a while, a company, including Glock and S&W have put out a few pieces or a series of pieces that haven't worked the way they intended. The Glock is probably the simplist piece I've found that also worked reliably. I say the M&P is a bit more complex only because I've never been schooled on how to tear one down or smith it. That said, it probably isn't that much more complex. I can't say that I'm a big fan of the 4th Gen Glocks - mainly for ergonomics, but the ones I've seen out on my ranges have worked like they were supposed to. Obviously there was a problem cause Glock's been replacing recoil spring assemblies. I've seen more than my share of broken trigger pins on Glock 40s, as well as a broken slide lock spring and a locking block. The 9mms were never a problem.

As I mentioned ergonomics, its not that I don't like the Glock's grip or pointablity. Its just that I like the M&Ps better.

I like the feel of the M&P over the Glock, more so over the Gen 4.The Glock wins me over in trigger pull over the M&P,but not by much.

I chose the M&P 40 over the Glock and other 40's including FNP, XD, Sigma, SD.

If you like the feel of the M&P and the trigger pull of the Glock, just remember that you can improve the trigger pull of the M&P, you can't improve the feel of the Glock.

I purchased a Sigma SW9VE on a whim, and I must say, I rather enjoy shooting it. It points very naturally and seems quite durable. If I had to spend money on another S&W poly pistol, it would be another Sigma.

I've had a G23 and a G22 . Bought a 4.25" M&P Pro and a few months later sold my last Glock. Like it much better.
