M&P PRO 9 - Looking for compatible level 2-3 holster

Hello,

I am new to the forum. I have read some threads concerning holsters for the Pro Series 9 but noticed the ones I viewed revolved around range shooting and offered less retention ratings.

I am looking for a Level II or III holster which fits the Pro Series 9mm with the five inch barrel. I've noticed there seems to be issues with finding holsters concerning the sight's height etc...?

I have not yet purchased this pistol but I am trying to research holsters before I get that far.

I am an officer and currently work for a Dept that issues Glock 21's (.45) with the Safariland level III retention holsters. I am accustomed to shooting .45's however I am transitioning over to a Sheriffs Office which does not issue your pistol or holster or practice rounds.

There are no real restrictions on the pistol's caliber/make and model but you must have a level II or III holster .

Since I will be buying the pistol and ammunition I figured I would get one I can purchase ammunition for easily and also "play" with when not seriously training at the range. Cheaper rounds make for more shooting.

I've decided on a 9mm and took a long hard look at the M&P Pro Series. Being accustomed to .45's it was a hard decision to make as everyone talks about knock down power but I am a firm believer in quick return fire with well placed shots. When this is done and with quality duty ammo, I see less problems with dropping down to a 9mm. It will be nice to have those extra rounds in each mag also!

I've heard the M&Ps fit in some holsters rated for Glocks. Looking at searches on company websites it is hard to find a definite answer. I want to make sure the holster fits in all aspects including sights and no snags on front sight upon drawing the firearm. Preferably one that fits flush or close ended with the muzzle. I like Safariland and Blackhawk! Brands but am open to suggestions .

I don't want to buy a weapon to carry on duty then find out I won't be able to because the holster is not compatible.

I'm looking at Pro Series 9 with 5 inch barrel . Not the C.O.R.E version as I don't forsee being able to find level 2 or 3 holsters for a pistol with a red dot mounted on it. That is UNLESS someone had any ideas about that....=) .

Safariland makes an ALS for the 5 inch pro/long slide. It is a level II and you can ad the SLS to make it a III i believe. If you cannot get the part number I can provide it for you on Thursday when i'm back at work. They are usually a special order item but they are also available with the TLR mold if you also want/need a light. In CO you can order them from Adamson police supply.

Thank you for the reply! And yes I would like the light mount . I figured as a regular holster was hard enough to find that one with the light mount would be added troubles . I'll try to look for it but if you don't mind, toss the number my way when you can. Thanks again, it was a real help.

You might also check out the Safariland 6280 series. With the STX finish, the prices are reasonable. In 6 years I haven't been able to damage the finish-not that I've been trying. About the only maintenance is occasionally lube the thumb release-I expect that would also be true of the ALS holsters.

BTW, you'll spend some time getting the holster built for the light mounted pistol properly adjusted. The instructions from the factory are a bit lacking.

To paraphrase a very qualified individual who was responding to being ribbed about his previous employer 'only' issuing a 9mm: "We can argue all day about which (caliber) is better if you get sloppy and put your bullet(s) somewhere other than where they ought to go. What you can't argue about is that if you run out of bullets before you run out of bad guys, you're (deleted) dead!"

I use the blackhawk serpa holster for duty and love it. I plan to switch to an m&p from my glock this year for duty and get the same holster.

They do have light options but you have to specify which light. Hope that helps!

DO NOT USE a holster for the Glock with your M&P. It will not lock properly. Safariland has a TON of variants and should have something you want, but the research can be a pain in the posterior. My experience is that their catalogs and on-line resources are not at all current or comprehensive, at least at last look. That may have changed.

I know of a string on another forum that discusses such holster issues, but it is pretty old and I am not sure what I need for a search string. Try searching out ATS Tactical and contacting them.
