As mentioned in a few other threads, my new June 2016 build date
Pro Series 5" M&P has the typical bad trigger so many have complained about.

Being S&W claims these go through the Performance Center and
claim a 4 to 5½ pound trigger as well as "smooth" I was pretty pissed
that is has major grit (striker block) on take up and a 7 pound pull.

CS rep agreed while base M&P's do get out with sub par triggers
due to the sheer volume produced, Performance Center guns
which the Pro Series is, should not leave with bad triggers.

I'll keep this updated as it proceeds. I shipped it Fed Ex this morning
with a S&W pre paid 2 day label. We'll see what happens.

My pro is from 2014. It had a little grit at frist but I do not notice it anymore. Either I'm just used to it or it's smoothed out. I like the trigger and I will say it is far superior to other striker fired pistols I've shot, and much better than the standard MP trigger. It's certainly no competition trigger, but it's great compared to others in comparable guns. I think a lot of it is subjective. The trigger, even on the pro version is not going to satisfy everyone, and I think some might expect too much from a cheap plastic gun.

Slingn,

Is it better then a standard M&P? Yes, BUT, 7.0 lbs
is a little much on a PC gun. You actually have to look in the
Performance Center catalog to find this model # 178010

Performance Center(R) M&P(R)9 Pro Series(R) | Smith & Wesson

My 4.25" M&P came with a 8½ pound trigger. That's crazy
since they claim 6½ on their website.

I put an Apex FSS flat face kit in it, now it's 4½ every pull and very little take up.

A perfect trigger for a 1911 shooter like me.

And all I expect, is the gun to be what they say it is, and to quote their website:

"• 4-5-1/2 lb. Smooth Trigger Pull"

And:

Bridging the gap between main production and the Performance Center,
the Smith & Wesson Pro Series represents the next step up from standard production line models.
M&P Pro Series pistols include numerous enhancements yet still remain true to "stock".
Bringing competition specifications and features in factory models, the Pro Series offers
that ready-to-go package while still maintaining production line integrity.

I had a pro and sold it in less than a week. It wasn't any better than my FS9 with the apex fss kit. I just can justify dumping more money ona of PC or Pro if the trigger sucks out of the box.

I agree, I'll see how it is when I get it back.

BUT, I really like the platform, hate the hinged trigger.

Depending on how it feels, I may just get the Apex replacement
trigger alone. It's only $40

I agree 7 lbs sure seems like a problem. I didn't mean to sound like you were bieng unreasonable, and expecting too much. I just think in general, it's a little too much to expect 1911 compition triggers out of cheap plastic gun, and some do.

As I said, my pro was a little gritty at first, but always had a nice light pull. 7 lbs would cause me to send it back too. My shield trigger is over 6. And if it wasn't for that fact it is my edc, I'd have some trigger work done. Actually, I've gotten used to the shields trigger, but what I don't like is it has thrown off my shooting with the FS pro. I was exceptionally good with the full size and now after 1000+ rounds thur the shield, which like many others I had a tendency to shoot a little low and left, I now shoot the full size a little high and right. Go figure. I can overcome this with finger placement, but then I have to think when I shoot. I don't like to think when I shoot. It should be nothing but muscle memory,

Anyway, good luck getting yours fixed up right. SW has always been good to me when I've had issues. I'm sure they will work with you. Hope they can get it to a point where you are happy.

Thanks Slingn.

I have a really good Customer Service rep I'm working with.
He's going to follow my gun through the process and make sure
it's GTG before shipping back to me.

Of course, the usual free magazine will be included because
of the inconvenience of having to return a new gun.

I'll report any updates as well as the final outcome as I get them.

I think that the Pro Series guns and the Performance Series guns are two different animals.

That being said, I have two Pro Series M&P's. A 5" 9mm. and a 4.25" .40s&w.

The 9mm had a trigger such as the OP described. Gritty with a trigger pull weight of between 6 and 7 lbs. Over time the trigger smoothed out and now the pull is the advertised weight, between 4.5 and 5 lbs. It is also nice and smooth. I like it alot. Give them some time, or there is always Apex Tactical, which is the route I went with the .40 Pro Series!

Hope this helps!

I spoke to a Performance Center tech support guy.

He said Pro Series & Performance Center M&P's
get the same trigger work. Same sear, same polish work
on the trigger bar engagement points.

great info was wondering the difference in the trigger department between those.

Also recently bought an M&P 9L Pro Series dated June 2016. Out of the box the trigger actually squeaked during the pre-travel before breaking at what seemed like a 7 lb pull weight. Stripped it down and found no lube on the rails, H bar or sear. After working in 3 drops of CLP into the trigger mechanism most of the grit was gone from the pre-travel and the pull weight lightened up. Have shot 4 mags of ammo through it and worked the trigger about 50 more times with snap caps and more CLP. Now the trigger seems about a 5 lb pull and there is only a slight amount of grit that is about the same of what I have with my factory G17 trigger after a little polishing but the pull weight is way better.

Know that clarkz71 likes his Apex triggers but from my experience in shooting Glocks I've decided that I don't like these split triggers with the safety lever in the middle. After shooting 2 boxes of ammo my trigger finger gets sore from working the safety lever and for safety reasons I'm not about to lighten up the pull on the safety lever very much especially if I'm using a holster. So I'll work with the factory M&P trigger and maybe clean out the striker a little if I feel the need.

I carried a Glock 23 for 10 years, shot it weekly.
I know what you mean about that trigger.

The Apex flat face is totally different, you don't even feel
the safety "center lever" when shooting.

Totally different then Glock. Apex also makes a replacement
trigger for Glock using the stock trigger bar.

Sorry, but it's trigger is far superior to other striker fired pistols you've shot? You must not have shot a lot of other SF pistols if you honestly believe that. Both my Pro 40 had an atrocious trigger, and my 9 Pro, while better, was still far from decent. Pick up a PPQ M2 or something similar, and you'll see what a quality stock trigger feels like. Heck, even Glock's stock trigger is better than M&P stock triggers.

As for the OP. Did you honestly expect it to be great? After all, it is still a M&P we're talking about. Now before I get called a hater or anything like that, I LOVE my M&P's. But I had to put work into it to love it. Even knowing of the trigger and accuracy issues, I still buy M&P's because of their, IMO, superior ergonomics.

My 9 Pro came with the advertised 5.5ish pull. It did have the grit during the pre travel though. But it had a nice crisp reset since it had the upgraded Slide Stop Assembly in it. I put in an Apex sear, comp striker spring, and comp sear spring, and now it pulls at a consistent 3.5 pounds. The Apex sear took care of the grit issue for me as well even though it has the stock striker block.

I'd be suspect of this. I handled a completely stock PC 9 and it's stock trigger was noticeably better than my 9Pro's stock trigger. Not as good as a trigger with Apex parts, but definitely better than my stock 9Pro.

No, that why I have a MGW sight pusher for the M&P and I
ordered the Apex trigger kit before I even bought this.

I have a 4.25" M&P9 with the FSS and My CORE will get one as well.

I sent it back because they need to make it right before
I make it great.

I still buy M&P's because of their, IMO, superior ergonomics.

Exactly, the ergos and fit/finish is what I want. Great foundation

Yep, and being I have 2 at home, I can keep sending this Pro
back until it's what they advertise.

Gee, this sounds familiar

Smith & Wesson M&P(R)9 Performance Center(R) Ported Pistol Review: Part 1 -
Introduction, Specifications and Summary

Same pull mine measured at. AND, this is a Ported PC gun.

Cons:
• When I checked the pull weight out of the box, it came in at about 7 pounds.
I didn't hesitate and immediately called S&W and sent the pistol back to them to correct the issue.
After about 5 weeks, the pistol was returned to me and S&W replaced the sear
(according to the paperwork) and the pull weight now comes in at about 5.4 pounds.
The trigger pull was still not the 4.5 pounds I was hoping, but this new pull weight
was within spec and is still a great feeling trigger and the reset was very short.
