Am looking at a mp 40 for shootn steel challenge in my area but want to shoot cast. Anybody shoot cast in theirs? If so any trouble with leading or fouling of bbl? Thanks for any info on the matter. 66er.

I don't own one so I can't say for sure, but they do have normal rifling so it shouldn't be different than any other gun out there.

i have the 40 but only shoot fmj so i cant say if it will or not. but from what i have read it should be fine

I shoot cast in my .45 M&P all the time, and I have a friend that shoots cast in his .40 version all the time. They have traditional rifling, so I don't see a problem.

I have the M&P40C. I have run a lot of hard cast lead through it. No problems. It will lead just like anything else. No more, no less. I did polish the ramp before I ever fired it. My feed ramp looks like crome. Lead won't stick to it. Lead comes out with out much trouble. Go for it.

thanks for the help I was just curious if you thaught it was a good Idea I hadn't heard any thing bad was just asking as a precausion. Will hopefully have on come monday eve.66er

As with any gun (other than Glocks which have polygonal rifling) it also depends on the hardness of the bullet you use and the velocity (pretty much) There are other factors but basically if you use a hard cats bullet and do not shoot++P loads you should be fine.

Have shot thousands of them with NO problems whatsoever. You should have the same experience.

I've shot thousands of cast bullet loads through my M&P 9 and 45 (don't have any 40 cal.). From what I've read, the only caution with the 40 cal guns and any reloads is to approach max loads very carefully, as the 40 is already closer to redline than other calibers.

Thanks for all the imput. Should free it up from hawk soon and will be shootn cast. Happy shootn and God bless. 66er

Or Kahr or H&K. Softer bullets at 750 fps may produce LESS leading than hard bullets at higher velocities, something called obturation effect.
