I purchased a Gen-1 Shield early on and paid way too much for it given todays prices. I never leave anything alone so I added after market night sights, a trigger job and Talon Grips. I have been thinking of putting an Apex trigger in it as well. Any reason to think about getting a 2.0 instead? Mine has the safety witch I would not have opted for had that option been available to me at the time.

No.

We both prefer the 1.0 models with the APEX trigger kit. The APEX trigger for me totally changes the gun for the better.

Trying a 2.0 from a friend or a rental range may help, but I suspect the difference between it and your modified 1.0 will be slight.

With what you've done to your original Shield, the ONLY reason to look at getting a Gen2, would because you've 'Got The Itch', just WANT one and have some cash burning a hole in your pocket. :)

Having written that... There a re quite a few handguns I've bought just because I WANTED it. :D

I would think if you wanted a 2.0 but planned to keep it in stock form then sure as you would have 2 different guns. But if the plan is to buy a 2.0 but then do the same mods that are on the 1.0?
Only speaking for myself but I wouldnt bother. Just my .02

I handled the 2.0, prefer the grip panels on 1.0, mine has the safety too, like the safety. I have no issues with my trigger either as I know most add the Apex to the M & P line.

I bought my Shield 1.0 two years ago and put on night sights, talon grip and an Apex kit. I'm completely satisfied with it, perfect for carrying and shoots great.
I haven't shot a 2.0 but I'm not really interested in one. If they were going for $200 (with rebates or promos) I'd probably buy one.
I really like my trigger and for the money its probably the best pistol value on the planet.

Just purchased a Shield 9 1.0 Monday, shot a rental 2.0 back in Feb and for the price difference I don't see a reason to get the 2.0. Picked up the 1.0 from GrabaGun for $275.

I paid too much for mine also, at the time I just had to have one. Mine is still stock, but I keep reading about trigger jobs and apex triggers. Y'all educate me. How much do the mods cost and how hard are they to do yourself? I'm always looking for the time to do another project.

Much of the parts kits are simply polished stock parts. If you are handy, the link below (Burwell M&P Trigger job) will walk you through polishing all the parts yourself.
Getting just the Apex 'Machined Sear' may be the only replacement part needed to achieve a lighter, smoother trigger, for only $42. The sear can be swapped out in under 5 Minutes (and there's plenty of videos to show you how).

I've tried the trigger on MANY 2.0s that I've sold. I still like the Apex sear and polishing on my old 1.0 better.;)

I recommend the Apex striker block with the sear. And as long as you have it apart, polish the block channel (hole) as well. That will address most of the "gritty" feel. And it's free....

I have the 1.0 I installed a Hyve trigger and an Apex striker block...I may install the Apex sear when I get around to it but I'm happy with the upgrades I've made so far.
