Which length 27-2 would you get if you could only have one

Which barrel length is the least encountered?

I think the 4" on a 27-2 or before based on what I have read here. I suspect that anything under 4" is not long enough to bring out the ballistic potential of a full power .357, and a 5" would be a far better choice as to that issue, plus not as unwieldy as the 6" or longer.

I'm also partial to the 5", the balance is perfect! Gotta admit the 3.5" in sexier though -

I have the itch for my first 27-2 most likely they will multiply since these revolvers are like potato chips. But if you could only have one length that is a pleasure to shoot which would it be?

I don't plan on carrying it, just bringing a smile to everyone's face when they shoot it.

What is the difference in the front sight variations I keep seeing?

Hand's down a 3 1/2"!! I already have most of the rest including a 5". I don't think you will go wrong with any of them. There's a reason they were considered the S&W Flagship Revolver. Smiles are guaranteed.

For me, the 5" is perfection. It is used afield, never CC'ed. Already have a M28 in 4", so feel like that base is covered.
My M27-2 is a c.1965 and has Patridge sights. It's seen a lot of woods time, so is not pristine.
Shooting any sort of .38's in these feels like a 'big .22' - a lot of fun.
