Just bought an M&P 9 Shield and love the gun! Great deal as well. $239 at Academy, $50 Academy gift card, and a $50 rebate from S&W... a little hard to beat.

Problem is after waiting a month to get the rebate from S&W (standard wait for any rebate anymore it seems), the stinkin card doesn't work! It won't activate at all. The company that issues the card (MyPrepaidCenter.com) has no direct line to call them, it only goes to an automated system to activate the card... which it doesn't recognize. After 3 tries (card number, expiration date, and security code all takes several minutes) it says press 1 to talk to an agent and hangs up on you.

So I call S&W. "We're aware of the problem but don't know how we're going to handle it. Might be an email. Might just send you another card. Sorry, that's all I know,"

Pretty pathetic.

Why not just lower the price of the gun by $50 for a limited time instead of aggravating your customers like this? The $50 isn't going to make or break me, but I was thinking of turning around and making another S&W purchase with the card. Now probably not so much...

Anyone else having problems with the rebate?

As far as your card not working, I sympathize with you. I also even had an even worse situation with a $100 Walther rebate once (where the rebate company wouldn't even tell me what I allegedly did wrong filling it out, and that brings me to my other point.

These companie bank on a certain number of people forgetting to fill out their rebates or filling them out correctly which forces them to forfeit their rebate (or, in the more sinister cases, perhaps relying in some cases on people not fighting it even though the the company handling the rebate was in the wrong).

That said, my wife used our Shield rebate at the supermarket this afternoon without issue. My PC Shield 9 M2.0, however, also had to go into service almost as soon as I bought it and it's going on three weeks. I've sent pistols to S&W no less than four times in the past, and I don't think I ever had it take longer than 14 days tops. Maybe they're just backed up or, like everything else over the decades, customer service continues in decline. I hope it's just the former. That really isn't bad though. I had FN take six months to resolve an issue.
