M&P Shield review (Single stack 9mm)

I picked up one today from my local gun dealer. $425 Im very anxious to get it to the range and try it out.

S&W pretty much read my mind on this one. I have an LC9 and really like it. So 9mm was a little late for me. I'm a big 40S&W fan and can't wait to pick this up in .40.:D

I got to handle two of these today, and I have to say that they seem nice. I went with the intention of trading a Glock 21on one. The first store I went to was a bust. I had called the store this afternoon, they told me they had shields in, enough to not to have to worry. I drove to the store as soon as I could, about a 40 minute trip. When I got there, they told me they were sold out and they had only gotten 4 in, despite what they had told me on the phone. This seems crazy to me as they are having their Smith and Wesson days event today through Sunday. I was extremely upset. The S&W rep that was there told me that the staff had bought some of them, I guess that is their right, but I felt upset because they had told me they had enough in stock to not worry about, so it was a wasted trip. They then told me that they were one of three stores in Pennsylvania to get the guns in stock. They had the reps sample there so I could look at, but he wasn't selling. I then went to Gander Mountain, five minutes away and guess what...They must have been store #2 in PA to have them in stock because they had them. Because I did not have all of the money, and I wanted to trade for the gun, I was not able to get it due to the fact that GM gives pennies on the dollar for a trade in and prices their guns way high. The original store I went to was Ace Sporting Goods in Washington PA, a place that always seems to treat people like they are two years old through their attitude, I am done with them. I guess I will have to wait for someone to order me one in locally, but I cant wait to get one.

Is Grabagun.com a pretty good place to buy from?

Placed my order with them yesterday afternoon, called my FFL shortly after, received an email notification around 4:15 from grabagun that my FFL info had been received and today received the shipping notification. All in all, pretty fast considering they advertise up to 3 days to get it out.

I'll definately pick up a 40 when they are out. Just to have a 40 that small. I can imagine it will be a hand full though!

Can anyone tell me of some of the better online stores. Looking to get a M&P .45 and availability around me is hard to come by.

My cousin and I both are anxious to purchase shields. However we both have to sell something first. As far as Ace Sporting Goods go we both have purchased from there and had no problems. The salesmen have always treated me fairly and informatively.

One question: what does this gun do that the 3913 or the 908 didn't do? Your ideas cause I dont know that much about them. Its going to be at or just under $400 too.

I had the same question. The obvious difference is weight. I haven't seen the Shield in person yet, but I know that I can't pocket carry my 3913TSW. So that may be enough reason for anyone to get one. Not that I care to pocket carry any gun, but IMHO, it's a good move for S&W to go after that market that Kahr has ruled for so long and Ruger, SiG, Springfield, et al have been going after in recent years.

Still, as stated by others, it's still not as small as the Kahr PM series, but seems the S&W fans have been grabbing them off the shelves!

I'm very interested in checking one out still, especially once the hysteria dies down and the prices get below MSRP across the board. Right now, dealers can almost call their shot since everyone is so rabid about grabbing one immediately.

I love mine and just stumbled on to it at Academy. I said that one for their 3 was going home with me and I am glad it did. $399 for mine.
