I feel like a broken record. I don't mean to disrespect you but If I had a shell for every time I got on this forum to explain that my Shield is a POCKET gun I would own a case of shells.

I will say it for the one-millionth time.

The stock rear Shield sight catches on most average size pockets (34 x 32 pleated slacks in my case) when you do a quick draw.

If you stick with the flush magazine and change out the stock sights for XS Big Dot the rear XS sight which is a lower profile sight with rounded edges and beveled forward design will not catch even with quick pocket draws.

I wear 34 x 32 pleated slacks from Sam's Club and the front pocket is very average in size and for 10 hours per day I POCKET conceal my Shield 9mm and no one in my office has a clue. (I am very mobile at work and the Shield in my pocket is just fine)

I practice drawing my Shield from my Desanti model E1 and in 1 1/2 seconds I can pocket draw, sweep safety, acquire target, and dry fire.

The Shield trumps the compact for concealment because thinness is critical for pocket concealment and the M&PC9 is 1/4 inch thicker which will stand out in average pant pockets and scream gun. I know I have tried pocket concealing the Glock 26 which is just as thick as the M&PC9 and it screams gun from my pocket.

If a person plans to IWB you can get away with a double stack like the M&P compact, however, I am not interested in wearing a second layer of clothing to cover the holster especially in 100 degree weather.

The Shield provides more concealment options over the compact, has a better trigger and is 100% reliable and that is why I own the Shield.

Amen Russ, pocket carry all the way. After owning a Kahr PM40, CM9, K9 and a Diamondback 9(junk by the way), I definitely lean towards all guns pocketable. The Shield works for me. IWB I would still favor the Shield. Night stand or house gun, the Compact or full size would be preferable.

I'm going back on my word. I found a Shield 9 today and I bought it. After holding an XDs, I knew I needed a slimline pistol.

Compact and Shield all tied up in the vote.

I sure hope this isn't a precursor for next Tuesday.

I don't see myself ever pocket carrying. I have my phone in one and keys in the other. Don't want my gun sharing pockets with either. Lol

There isn't anything wrong with having several pistols, is there? I haven't found one yet that fills all the roles I want/need...so, I have several, and that is an excellent excuse to find more roles and buy more guns to fill them. :D

A bit off the main subject, but where are the Shields available?
I live in Arkansas, and have been on several waiting lists, and the story I keep getting is; " none are coming in". Is this true throughout the USA??

The only one I found in the whole state was at Wilkins Brothers in Russellville. I drove 2 hours to get it.

I think you made a smart choice...

I will be picking up mine next week, it finely came in...

Unfortunately I will have to work on it right away as MASS makes us buy it with a 10 lb trigger, so I will be ordering a APEX kit, a Crimson Trace lazer and a set of XS Big Dot Sights 1st thing...

I'll load up some photo's to show you the size difference...

I daily carry a M&P 40c right now, I just bought a S&W Pro Series 1911 to replace the M&P because it is much lighter and with a bad back it will make a difference...

I am buying the Shield to replace a Ruger LC9 that I bought, the LC9 is to small for my bear paws and I can't shoot it well with it's trigger and small size, the Shield fits my hand better...

As others have said, keep the compact and make sure you like the Shield 1st... Than keep the compact for home or for carrying when the Shield maybe down for some reason...

Good Luck and enjoy...

I totally agree, you can never have enough guns...

I also like different guns for different things...

Never place anything including your hand in the gun pocket.
My keys, chapstick etc goes into my left pocket, cell phone on my belt.

My Shield 9mm is in a Desanti holster which covers the entire trigger and the safety is on in my front right pocket and nothing else shares the pocket.

If you are right handed it does take getting use to pulling keys and chapstick from the left pocket but for safety sake get use to it even when you are not packing train yourself to use the left pocket if right handed for your keys.

Is that a Shield in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?

Glad it works for you. I am also a fan of the XS sights... will get some some day.

"There are reasons the FBI, 'most' police departments, etc., issue the GLOCK pistol - simplicity and RELIABILITY!"

Don't forget that Glock will almost give their guns to LEA's in order to have the bragging rights. Glocks are good guns but a lot of them are in LE due to financial considerations.

I just ordered a crimson trace laser and a set of XS Big Dot sights for my new Shield...

I just ordered the APEX trigger kit also as I have the MA gun with the 10.5 lb trigger...

I just put 3 to 4 hundred rounds through it Saturday without one hick-up, it shot great, the MA trigger isn't that bad, but it's nowhere near what my other gunsmith tuned M&P's are...

I ordered a APEX kit for the Shield and for my new M&P 45 because I want to install them myself and try them out to see how the APEX trigger feels.

I'll load up some photo's soon to show you the size difference... The Shield is very close to the same size except for the width and weight...

I have a 40 Shield, a 45c, and a G23. Guess which one I carry most?

Shield. I have a ton of holsters but I prefer concealment over the "what if" factor from having more ammo without reloading. If I can't hit my target in 7-8 shots, I shouldn't be carrying. Plus I CC the other mag for a worst case scenario (multiple threats). If I wanted to give up the concealment factor, I'd open carry my 45c (w/ 10rd x-grip mag and reload).
