Hi I have a M&P 40 with the magazine safety and was looking to covert it to a 9mm performance center 5in ported. I was wondering if the 40 frame will accept the 9mm slide kit and if the frame will take 9mm magazine. Thanks!

When I looked at them it seemed clear that they will not work with the new M&P 2.0 version nor will they work with Frames with a Magazine Safety. Other than that, I think they work with any original M&P with no mag safety.

Yeah I seen the deal with the 2.0. Mine is an older one with a mag safety. I did see they sell kits made for the safety I'm just not sure if there is a difference between the 40 frame and the 9. Since I'd like to use my 40 frame and put the 9 slide kit on it to avoid buying another gun for cost reasons. And curious is the 9 mags will fit in the 40 frame.

I think the simple answer is yes it will.

On the other hand the kit is $400+ and M&P 40s as police trade ins can be had for $270ish in good shape with night sights and 2 mags. You'll need 9mm mags as your 40 mags will not work properly with 9mm ammo. I just got a police trade in 40 and bought a 357Sig barrel for $80 and now I have 2 guns in one myself.

Mag safety is irrelevant. The 9mm slide will work with the 40 frame. The magazines will fit.

This is not a guess. I know because I've done it.

Not that I disbelieve you but S&W says that the Performance Center kit will NOT work with a mag safety frame. Wondering why their online materials would say that if they do work?

The one without the mag safety has the warning on the side. The mag safety has nothing to do with the slide.

I don't understand why they would say that. The mag safety (mag sear disconnect) doesn't impact the frame in any way.

Thanks, that makes sense as the two are slightly mechanically different. Always learn when I come here.:)
What are the mechanical differences? Other than the disconnect lever, they're the same as far as I can see. So, what is different? I want to learn too.

Add me to the list. I've found at a number of places the various kits but only for pistols with the mag safety. I, too, was wondering what the mechanical differences, if any, were, and having handled both I haven't see any. I've even swapped slides on a couple M&P compacts, one from the factory with and one without the mag disconnect, and each seemed to function properly with the other slide. Is the distinction in the S&W catalog only because if you order a kit for a pistol with the mag safety, it won't have the warning on the slide, i.e., there's no other mechanical difference and I could safely order a kit listed as for guns with the mag safety, but it would function properly?

These are all the different slide kits with SKU#s (although I dont think they've released the 40s yet) ...... Content | Smith & Wesson

If you can wait I would suggest getting the APEX long slide kits coming out soon. I think Randy has mentioned they will be releasing it around the same time as Bianchi Cup 2017 (which just happened).
