I don't no what to call it.
The plague
A craze
But this EBR has went from unwanted to sold out seemingly overnight.
I'm seeing more and more new purchases everyday.
For the newest members, enjoy !

I have handled AR's for 30 years, and I'll put my M&P Sport up against any other in a run and gun event. S&W came up with a winner here, now everyone else in the industry is catching on.

S&W released the 15-Sport at just the right time. IMO, a confluence of factors make it popular.

The 15-Sport delivers on that implied quality of the S&W brand. The 15-Sport's price point gets it into the hands of more firearms enthusiasts, from those new to the AR platform to the experienced enthusiast.

When another firearms enthusiast tells me about their top tier rifle (Noveseke, LaRue, etc...) to me, it's not practical for me to go and spend $1,500 or more to acquire one.

When I extoll the virtues of the 15-Sport to anyone who will listen, the 15-Sport's affordable price point does not put it out of reasonable reach for most individuals.

The 15-Sport is appealing to a wider customer demographic than it's arbitrary "entry level" niche to which it's been grouped into. The 15-Sport performs better than it's "entry level" classification implies.

15-Sport = good value for the money spent... and then some.

Just wish I would have purchased mine when nobody wanted one. It sucks to be on the wrong end of supply and demand! Even at $650, I still feel it was a good value, but I wouldn't go much higher.

The high quality we pay so little for easily puts this weapon in a higher price bracket. Definitely a WIN with the enthusiast. I hope demand doesn't hurt the price as it has for the rest of this market. Such as some of the rails for 200 to 300 buks and iron sight sets for 200$, it's getting crazy.

At the rate the sport has gained fame and popularity, I hope out does not end up like the Ruger SR1911. Selling for $200-300 over dealer cost.

Well, let's hope cooler heads prevail and there is not much panic buying with regards to the election.
As of yet, president Obama has not moved very hard on firearms (Other than sending thousands of them illegally to Mexico) so our shooting opportunities should not be limited. But- I don't trust ANYTHING with politics much as of late.
Here's to hoping ammo and firearms are not caught up in a wave of hysteria. That crud costs everyone a ton in artificially raised prices.

Phenomena is called marketing prowess. Make a decent AR platform rifle that can be sold to the masses like samples of tide in the suburbs. Introduce it just in time for the " world to end ". :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Like many many others I feel better knowing I have a loaded AR and multiple magazines in the house when its the acronym time. Until then it serves its role.... tying up a lil time and money. I could be gambling or at the bar or something. Instead I'm downstairs on this BBS with y'all looking at my weapon that keeps getting more doodads on it by the day. By the acronym time I'll hopefully have the QD milspec hard coat annodizedcoffeepot/grenade launcher attachment.

I wouldn't own a AR-15 if it wasn't for the sport.

I'm more of a milsurp guy that saw a sport for sale locally for $595 and though "damn, that's a great deal" and bought one.

I wanted a 223 for Pdog hunting, have for years. Tried my Dads Mini14, not accurate enough. Last thanksgiving one of my nephews came home and bought an OR on the way and we went and sighted it in and then went hunting, it did everything I wanted...saw the sport and had to have one. Due to financial consideration I had to finance it but I am glad I did cause I have what I wanted and it does what I want very very well!!

LOL I remember that when you originally posted it because I was doing my research on the M&P Sport, then purchased mine in December.

I just remember thinking that I was going to have to get an AK and would never be able to own an AR. I'm so glad I found out about the Sport. I think once people find out that they can own an american rifle made by an american company they get sold quick.

I'm new to AR's, heck I'm new to this site with this being my first post. I had a budget of $1k and did my fair share of homework and when all was said and done, I couldn't find a single reason to justify spending twice as much money of what is almost the same weapon. I'm glad I did, I put the furniture I wanted on it and still came in under what I would have spent on a Daniel Defense or Rock River.

1200 rounds in three weeks and not a single problem! Some clown at the range commented that without the forward assist and dust cover this rifle wouldn't be practical in the real world. I quickly reminded him that we're in Austin. Ten minutes later he had a miss feed and made it worse with the FA. I looked over, smiled and kept plinking:) Already established that my next AR will also be an M&P.

Similar for me...I've had a shotgun and pistol for about 3 years now, and I wasn't necessarily looking at getting a rifle, but I got a Gander Mountain advert in the mail with the Sport on the cover. I couldn't believe an AR was that affordable, so I jumped on it. Gander was sold out, but a LGS had one left in stock (@ $670). Fast forward one month to now, and I've done so much research into the AR platform, modified it...it's been really enjoyable, and a blast to shoot :)

So started looking for another sport for my son.
Man.... Where did they all go ! Betting it gets worse.
DPMS is building to order and are months out unless it's on the floor.

Just saw my dealer last night, he said he can't get any Sports and he's got a waiting list of a dozen right now. It's a great rifle and a great deal and they hit the market at just the right time!

Exactly. I love mine...both of them :)
